Species: varied bunting
The varied bunting (Passerina versicolor) is a species of birds known as buntings, related to the cardinals. They range throughout southern Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas in the US and down to Oaxaca in Mexico. Some also live in Chiapas, Mexico and in Guatemala. Breeding males are purple-red in color, with a bright red patch on the head. Females are a drabber light brown.
