THQ is a defunct American video game company founded in April 1990 by LJN co-founder Jack Friedman. THQ is a well recognized trademark in the video game industry associated with numerous franchises and game titles over its 20 year history as a company. THQ's prolific journey ended after several poorly received game releases and the production of its failed uDraw drawing tablet contributed to THQ filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy on December 12th, 2012.
Following the filing, THQ's assets were auctioned off. Many of its IPs got bought by Nordic Games, Deep Silver, Sega, and Ubisoft. Nordic Games also purchased the THQ trademark, and then promptly changed its name to THQ Nordic.
