Character: yogi bear (character)
Yogi Bear is a Hanna-Barbera cartoon character created in 1958 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, and character designer Ed Benedict. He is a anthropomorphic brown bear who wears a green hat, a collar and necktie. Yogi was originally voiced by voice actor Daws Butler. In terms of personality, Yogi was also based on the actor Ed Norton in the classic sitcom The Honeymooners.
Yogi Bear initially started as a series segments for The Huckleberry Hound Show in 1958. He gained popularity as one of Hanna-Barbera’s first breakout star after appearing here, and soon became more popular than the show's main star.
Whilst boasting himself as "smarter than the av-ver-age bear!", Yogi Bear's typical routine is to assert himself as anything but ordinary. His main goal life is to obtain picnic baskets (or "pic-a-nic baskets" as he prefers), attempting to steal them from the wandering guests of Jellystone National Park. His partner-in-crime is Boo Boo, a small bear who often acts in caution about his elaborate schemes. Both he and Boo Boo are also the target of Ranger Smith, whose relationship with the former vary from slight sympathy to strict disapproval. Besides all of that, the cheery bear is also an expert of speaking rhymes.
After Huckleberry Hound, Yogi later appeared as the leading character of The Yogi Bear Show in 1961, and has later appeared in other media since. His appearances have extended to cartoon spin-offs, several comic books; video games; television specials; a 1964 musical film in the form of Hey There, It's Yogi Bear!; and a live-action movie in 2010, which starred Dan Aykroyd as the bear's voice. Recently in 2021, Yogi is also one of the many Hanna-Barbera characters featured in Jellystone!, an HBO Max series developed by C.H. Greenblatt.
