Grand Theft Auto V is an open world action-adventure video game developed and published by Rockstar Games, released in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, 2014 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and 2015 for Microsoft Windows, and soon to be re-released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It is the fifth main numbered entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. Set in the Southern California-based state of San Andreas and the Los Angeles-inspired city of Los Santos, the game revolves around three playable protagonists:

• Franklin Clinton, a gang banger who wants to move up in the world when the gang life would not be able to let him do so.
• Michael De Santa (né Townley), an ex-criminal who is living in Los Santos under witness protection with his family.
• Trevor Philips, a psychotic Canadian-American criminal who was Michael's partner in crime until a botched heist in 2004 led to their separation, with Trevor believing Michael to be dead until nine years later.

The three would end up working together to pull off massive heists across San Andreas, dealing with numerous criminals and corrupt government agencies along the way.

GTA V also has an online multiplayer component called Grand Theft Auto Online, which (until later updates) is set a few months before the main single-player campaign. GTA Online has players play as a customizable silent protagonist who builds up a criminal empire in San Andreas.
