Before and after describes posts that juxtapose a pair of images to show a transition between two distinct states of a character's pose, costume, size, age, physical form. This often shows the "cause and effect" how the something changes a character or a scene . It can also show a character/scene at two points in time.

Tagging Notes
This tag should only apply when both the "before" and "after" are depicted in the same image.
If the transition is shown across multiple posts, this tag should not be used, and the posts should simply be linked by a parent/child relationship.
If more than one image is used to show the transition, then the post should not be tagged as before_and_after but as a sequence
Rarely, posts may show multiple images/panels to show something different within the same "before" or "after" state, see example two above
While before_and_after posts are often two panel comics, or two images of the character given equal visual space, this tag can be used for posts that show the "before" and "after" states in less straightforward ways, such as...
A character shown in an old photograph (before) within the image, compared to their present self (after) in the main part of the image
The before or after state shown as a smaller inset panel or close-up illustration next to, or within a larger image
A "split screen" image where the same character or scene is split down the middle, with the before and after states being on either side of the split.
