The Super Famicom (スーパーファミコン) is a Japanese video game console released by Nintendo in 1990. It was rebranded as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System for the American (NTSC) and European (PAL) markets. The NTSC model was redesigned, and is visibly distinctive from the Japanese model. Unlike the American model, the only difference in controller and console design between the European and Japanese models is the product name stamped on the product itself. For this reason, the PAL models are included as part of the Super Famicom tag, while the NTSC model defaults to the Super Nintendo tag.
