thigh gap

Situations where a character's pose and body shape cause a small gap to form between their closed legs and pelvis. Ideally, the character's thighs or knees touch and the gap appears triangular, flat at the pelvis and coming to a downward point where the legs close. If the knees and legs do not touch, then they should nearly touch such that a gap obviously would remain when they do touch. As a concept, no matter how hard this character tries, their body does not allow them to fully close their thighs while standing, but this is only a guiding principle for tagging and not a final rule.
The thigh gap is an inherently feminine trait due to females' traditionally thicker thighs and wider hips than males and their lack of conspicuous protruding genitalia that would block the gap. In the right circumstances, atypical body shapes can still create a thigh gap, such as slim characters with knees touching, males with feminine figures, or characters with less pronounced bulges or just featureless crotches.
Features:
- legs_together, knees_together, knock-kneed - almost required.
- standing - most common thigh gap pose.
- front_view, rear_view - usually the character's front or back directly faces the viewer, making the thigh gap easier to notice and confirm. In these cases, the background behind the character will usually appear through the thigh gap, creating a contrast of colors in between the thighs and pelvis.
- butt_from_the_front - thigh gaps can provide a window to a character's butt viewed their front, which may be perceived as an added benefit.
- three-quarter_portrait, full-length_portrait - most thigh gap posts are portraits that show off a character's body.
- wide_hips - separate the legs, allowing the gap to form more readily than narrower hips.
- thick_thighs - in art, thicker thighs are more likely to touch and form the triangular gap in neutral poses, especially standing. In real life, the opposite goal of thinner thighs is often necessary to achieve a thigh gap.
- featureless_crotch - simply have no genitalia that could block the thigh gap.
Tagging Issues:
- wide_hips, slim - thigh gaps must be demonstrated true. Never assume that a character will achieve a thigh gap only based on what seems possible but remains unproven. Characters causing this confusion often have traits conducive to thigh gaps, like wide hips or a slim body, but they merely stand with legs apart.
- spread_legs - the opposite of thigh gap. These tags should never describe the same pose.
- three-quarter_portrait, butt_shot, crotch_shot - avoid tagging thigh_gap when the character's lower body ends around the thighs without at least beginning a convincing triangular thigh gap.
