Bats are a small flying mammal from the order Chiroptera. They have small legs, and two webbed wings. They are the only mammals who are capable of true flight.
Bats are not rodents, despite appearances. Bats also are not blind. Large bats (megabats) actually have quite keen vision, while smaller bats have echolocation to guide them. Bats that echolocate have a special anatomical feature called a leaf nose that is theorized to assist them with echolocation.
Most bats eat fruit and insects, though some species also drink the blood of other animals.
In culture and popular media, bats are often associated with evil and bad omens, likely due to the fact that most live in dark places. They are also frequently associated with vampires, both due to the fact that there are species of bats that drink blood and because the famous vampire Dracula could transform into one, a trait that is often shared by modern vampires.
