Mimikyu lives its life completely covered by its cloth and is always hidden. People believe that anybody who sees its true form beneath the cloth will be stricken with a mysterious illness. People in the Alola region are convinced that you must never try to peek beneath its covering. Mimikyu’s health fails when it’s bathed in the rays of the sun, so it prefers to stick to dark places. It’s rumored that the reason it covers itself with a cloth is to avoid sunlight.
The rising popularity of Pikachu-styled merchandise around 20 years ago is the reason that Mimikyu makes itself look like Pikachu. In fact, this Pokémon is dreadfully lonely, and it thought it would be able to make friends with humans if only it looked like Pikachu.
Mimikyu has the Disguise Ability, a new Ability that no Pokémon has ever before possessed. The Disguise Ability allows it to escape damage from an enemy’s attack just one time, and then its appearance changes.
Mimikyu’s Pikachu-like appearance is due to its Disguise Ability. In order to resemble Pikachu, this Pokémon makes patterns that look like eyes and a mouth appear on a regular scrap of cloth.

Memberat first I thought this was some sort of creepy ghost pokemon, but it just wants friends... I want one...or six... A WHOLE BOX OF THEM
Afterglow
MemberThe English name is Mimikyu, the Japanese name is Mimikkyu.
Furrin Gok
MemberThe name was based on the word "Mimic." There are a lot of Pokemon that have English names in Japanese, despite being given a name in Japanese first. Miltank, for example, is Mirutanku, Riolu is Rioru, and Lucario is Rukario (Of note: Japanese writing does not have L's).

MemberAlso, nice to get clarification on what Disguise does. Looks like it changes form after being attacked, similar to Kecleon's Color Swap, rather than changing form with an ability like Ditto. Hopefully it's a "once per battle" thing and not "once in its entire life"

MemberPhonetically they parse and are pronounced identically.

MemberAnd now we have the dex descriptions. Interestingly, there are separate dex descriptions for before and after the disguise is broken.
Sun - Its actual appearance is unknown. A scholar who saw what was under its rag was overwhelmed by terror and died from the shock.
Moon - A lonely Pokémon, it conceals its terrifying appearance beneath an old rag so it can get closer to people and other Pokémon.
(Disguise broken)
Sun - After going to all the effort of disguising itself, its neck was broken. Whatever is inside is probably unharmed, but it’s still feeling sad.
Moon - If its neck is broken or its rag torn during an attack, it works through the night to patch it.

MemberDo you actually get injuries if you glance at part of it's real body? That I'm still wondering about.
