The shuffling could be heard, but its location could not be isolated. He frantically searched the room, yet despite his heart's attempt to break free of its bone-enforced prison, the pounding would not override the horrific noise. It came as a raspy, struggling static; a broken, feminine voice heard beyond the foggy tone. A stagnant smell pulled at his noise as the sound grew closer. The pleading words came from the sides of the bed, nearly at his ear.
"...I'm still in here..."
She had finally returned home, but not like he had once known...
