MemberUpscalers produce varied results based on the art style and the original file type, they can be pretty good for upscaling hard, distinct lines (such as anime art, which is what waifu2x was made for originally) and work best with non-compressed images, but once jpeg artifacts and shading come into play results become less favourable and often a little blurry, like they went through some kinda "Oil Painting" photo editor effect.

MemberThat's true, but it's a tool like everything else, and if used right it produces very good results.
Besides these were edits first and foremost and increased resolution was just a bonus and I'd like to think that it was done right.
Furthermore nobody would even notice anything but I was stupid enough to write about the upscale in the description.

MemberGreen so perfect! :)
Minus
Member1354x1500 doesn't need upscaling. That's already too big for most monitors. The reduction in quality is not worth the bigger size. But... Confusingly the parent post looks like an upscale, whilst being the same resolution. I don't know what happened there. This image here is the crispest of them all, so, is this the original?
KunaiWithChain
MemberYou can never have too much resolution!

MemberNo, this is an edit, the reason it's sharper is a little more complicated though.
Before I started editing the image I upscaled it with Waifu2x by 400%, then I downscaled it by 50% before uploading, which means that the final version that ended on e621.net was twice as big as the original. That post however has been removed because upscales are not allowed here (which I didn't know at the time). So after removal I had to reupload it in original resolution - but to do that I had to scale down the original edit which was at 400% resolution and already sharp. Scaling down an already sharp image had the side effect of making this version extra crispy.
