  • So it's designed to power something much bigger, and it's so close to critical that it's pretty much melting. Whelp, goodbye everyone, you're about to witness a nuclear explosion at ground zero. Take pictures!

It just has to be the right amount of fire, just a little is fine, when it's too much, then we have problems, just can't quite remember what the 'right amount' of fire looks like >_>'

  • But I get the feeling this "just maintenance" is going to turn into "everything is broken and on fire".

Looks like I called it, sadly for them and possibly everyone else within several miles.

This is far above the average.

  • Yeah, this thing should have automated systems for things like this, eho ever designed and/or developed it really wasn't that smart, and I don't blame Alphis, she only followed the instructions on taking care of the thing

  • Starting from the top:

    >There's is smoke just billowing out of this thing. I don't need to be an engineer to know that that much smoke is dangerous.

    >The whole thing is on fire. Even for a vast, arcane machine built into the volcanic heart of a mountain, that's a Bad Sign.

    >It's falling apart. Plating has started to break off, the pipes have burst, and the wiring is either severed or fried.

Conclusion: Shit's broke. The whole thing could go at any second.

Wait, if fire magic exist on Undertale, can anyone freeze it to cool it down?

Yes but there are several problems with using that method:
First, have you ever seen someone try to use ice-cold water on a just-used hot coffee pot? Most of the time it shatters like someone hit it with a hammer. That can also happen to metal, though if you're lucky it will only warp or crack instead. Even that could cause an issue with a machine this large and probably complex.

Second, finding enough monsters with enough oomph to their magic (and the skills aimed in the "cold" type of magic) to accomplish cooling off the whole thing all at the same time. One or two isn't going to cut it. They'd probably exhaust themselves before even making a dent in the heat-issue. That's probably the entire reason they had someone throwing ice into a river that seemed to flow directly to the CORE to begin with.

Third, Getting them there. From what we saw in-game, there aren't too many monsters that can fly.

And fourth, just being in Hotland is probably uncomfortably hot for anyone not cold-blooded. Have you ever held the palm of your hand five inches above a candle flame for a few seconds? Being above a small open lake of bubbling lava in combination with whatever heat the CORE is putting out might kill anyone who is hovering above and close to it.

Most likely if they want to do this safely they'll need to completely shut the CORE down first, let it cool off for a week, and THEN work on it. Even then it's still going to be ludicrously toasty around it because again, lava lake.

I was about to suggest asking Monster Kid, but then remembered that he only has ice powers in that OTHER comic going on right now...

That is absolutely no excuse for poor craftsmanship.

  • IT managers be like:
"Yeah, shut it down for a few minutes. Then, the CORE should be on fire. You're good to go!"
