Because having the whole Naboo explode in the Trade Federations collective faces forcing them to escalate the conflict from a trade dispute to a full blown intergalactic civil war certainly helped the Jedi in the long run....

To be honest, i would have preferred using a lightsaber, or an stormtrooper blaster, and thermal detonator, or deathstar reactor cannon...hell just use all of the above-mentioned.
