I was under the impression that post #1 would be the 1st post, post #2 the second, and so on, until post #100000 was the 100000th post.

No it isn't Just cause the link says "post/100000" doesn't mean that it's the 100k post. If you'd type in www.e621.net/posts/1
You won't find anything. Posts are assigned with random numbers ranging from thousands to millions

i know this was from 2 years ago, but I just had to point out that they most certainly do not get assigned with a random number
