Topic: Them porn ads!

Posted under General

What the fucking hell is wrong with you people?

Make them go away
There are 3 ways you can do that:

1. Turn off your monitor while browsing e621
2. Don't look at them.
3. Get used to it

Seeing them turns me off. /cry

well, all you can do is ignore them. those ads are the only thing keeping this site free.

1. Buy ads
2. Place there whatever you want

I'll make you a deal: Pay us the same amount of money the ads do eath month, and we'll take them off the site.

Kind of like women with makeup, fad diets, expensive clothes, jewelery, etc.

the one with the gay guys makes me want to throw-up but i don't complain. im going to teach you a trick to not see them anymore:
1. put your hand carefully on the mouse
2. put your finger on the scroll button
3. scroll down until image isn't visible
4. repeat with every page
5. congratulations!! you have just learned to successfully scroll-down!

Maybe make it possible for there a donate/account feature of some sort? I adblock and noscript everything, period, but I try to donate to sites I use a lot that rely on advertising. maybe make something like safebooru for the safe images here and set up a paypal account for that?

I mean, if you go around posting 'look I'm proclaiming that I am circumventing the ad revenue you rely on that just barely keeps the site running' or 'hi everyone I am underaged' or whatever, seriously now, what did you think was going to happen? Come on, work with me here people. :(

well a admin can be overzealous too, I have a buddy that´s banned from here until he dies of old age and never got a straight answer why and just quited following this page because he was never told why he was banned something both him and me agree is at least what admins should tell.

It also sends them a PM when they're banned/probated with a link to that exact same text and plops a big YOU HAVE A NEW MESSAGE over the page until they click it.

Reasons why everyone gets banned.

found my friends ban, according to that reason for ban: Go to hell....last time I check that is not considered a professional nor mature reason to ban someone...

Click 'Mark all Read' at the top of your mail list, or clear your cache and reload the page. Both should fix the problem.

You can read that to "Terrible poster with terrible comments" if you like. This way has the added effect of smashing home just how little we'd like him here.

If a user is going to be poison for the site, I feel no obligation to put the kid gloves on when dealing with them, nor prettying up our request to have them fuck off. You say unprofessional, I say 'does not mince words'. Sometimes, a person just needs to go to hell. We let 'em know, so that you, the viewer at home, don't have to.

EDIT: Just asked Arc and Koekje about it, and Arc specifically remembers dealing with him via a long chain of emails debating and talking about the reasons for his ban and conduct for about a week after the ban was handed out, so if he's claiming not to know why, he's being dishonest with you.

seems like most people got banned for misuse of deletion tool. either that or being a troll.
anyone know what ban evasion is?

It means: You get banned, but you create a new account and still visit this site all thou you have been previously banned.

They than ban your IP so you cant visit this site again.

That's hilarious. I'm sorry for your friend, but I couldn't help cracking up to "Go to hell" as a ban reason..

Yeah, reading the ban reasons was better entertainment than "COPS". I'm going to have to make it a point to check back on them.

And for sure, "Go to hell" is a lot shorter than "you junked up our booru with crap tags", or "'flag for deletion' is not a replacement for your personal account filter".

I'm going to guess that they got into an extended row with the admins. When in doubt, remember that if you'd rather leave than accept the admins' authority, the admins will be happy to help you along your way.

Most (if not all) of those people got rebanned because they admitted to creating a new account.

In that guy's case, he had the same name but instead of a C at the end, it was a D.

Doh?

If the administrators ask the site's clients to turn off ad-blockers, I think it's only fair for the clients to ask the site administrators to choose to only show advertisements that appeal to the target group.
You don't go buying window-time from busy traffic intersections for your hospital. Or if you do, you're a dick.

Hence I go forth with how I want to view the content provided to me, not the other way around: I came for gay furry porn and am far from amused from seeing slideshow of girls with cum on their face and eyes. Not to mention the poorly photoshopped growing penises with all the nitty-gritty details. The feeling's just not right for that, it's either real life porn or furry porn.

Bottom line:
Change your advertisements. Do deals with furry sex shops since most probably the readily available deals with the ad brokers don't include a category for furries. If you don't want to because it is additional work, well, too bad. Just don't blame the users.

When you decided to host a site, you couldn't possibly have missed the fact that it would gain attention and would consume enormous amounts of bandwidth, and money. If I were to host a site close to my personal interests then I would also be be prepared to pay off my own pocket.

Do the ads pay you guys on clickthroughs or on impressions? Because I have a solution if it's impressions.

Considering e621 is a free service, which doesn't even require a registration, i doubt the concept of client/vendor applies. As such, users are free (on a legal pov) to use ad-blockers, and the staff is free to cut their access to the site if they see fit.
It's only a matter of logic that, if you like the site's concept and the facilities it provides, you help keep it alive and running.

koiruus said:

Easier said than done. It's actually the case for the small left ad box, which links to hardblush, bad dragon and such. For the rest, the site can only deal with major ad providers in order to expect a decent income. Considering the amount of adult content hosted here, most non-porn ad providers will refuse to let e621 advertise for them, and they don't have choice on which banners they can put (furry porn is a really small niche in the whole porn industry).

What makes you think it's not already partially the case ?

If you're thinking of some kind of macro/bot that would increase the ad views, i wouldn't try it.

But what if you run a computer repair shop, or own multiple computers? xD

theres several ways to change ip, so doing so would be a waste of thier time

Affirmative; with some ISPs all it takes to get a new IP address is to reboot your modem.

Do you know that "new IP" is always in a small fixed segment? :)

No. There are some ad "blockers" that actually load the ad, then load another, different ad over them. More like ad "coverers", I guess. Some charities offer them so that people can install them on their browsers and earn money for the charity while browsing. If the ads pay by impression, this might work as a compromise for the people who don't mind ads but don't like porn ads.

Of course, if the ads pay by clickthrough, this wouldn't work.

Jazz said:

If by that you mean how the ISP will only assign you an IP address within your geolocation (i.e. city), then yes.

Updated by anonymous

IP bans are generally quite effective. They don't ban a single IP address, they are banning your IP range. If you've visited the site for any amount of time, they should have a record of all the IP addresses your ISP dynamically distributes to you. Thus without getting a new ISP, you won't get an IP address outside of the banned range.

You don't really have a practical way around them other than using a proxy server.

I got banned once for telling mellis to shut up and fap. I replied to the ban email, apologizing and saying that I didn't mean to come off as insulting him (I was being flippant, like usual). He unbanned me *shrug*

Arc still pays money out of his own pocket... tell you what though. Go pay Arc what the ads make... then Arc can change the ads for you to whatever you want ;)

Yes, I'll ONLY run furry ads.

And then when we run hundreds and hundreds of dollars short each month, the money will come from.. where..?

Most. Useless. Power. Ever.

I loved that they always felt a need to contrive some bizarre way of making it the most important power that saved the day, but it was so obvious that they were just stuffing it in there to have a moral.

Dude - Ma-Ti's power was goddamn mind control. Of anything. If you opposed him he could just turn you into a hippy pacifist and then sic a polar bear or something on you. Best power of the lot.

Except he didn't know how to use it properly and occasionally would wander off and sulk about it. Power's only as good as the wielder. Really, in general, those rings would have been much more effective in the hands of someone other than kids. Well, except Linka. Linka's a badass.
