ACTA has been signed by countries as early as last October. Now we have to wait until June for the European Parliament to ratify it or not.

Because if ratified, the border contingencies in it would allow airport officials to search and take your laptops and iPods if there is any copyrighted material (that shouldn't be there.) It can be used the way SOPA was intended and allow participating governments to shut down websites with copyrighted material. It can be used to prevent drug companies from creating "generic" alternatives to name-brand drugs, which would allow GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer to artificially inflate drug prices and totally bomb supply.

The U.S. signed this in October.

And then the Grey Death catches on in rural areas, and the Statue of Liberty is bombed, forcing UNATCO to be formed.

Thank Big Brother for Minipax and Miniluv, keeping Goldstein at bay both in and outside of Oceania.

Well how the fuck would they know? Are they just going to take everyone's laptop and iPod now and search it? Not only is that a violation of privacy, but it's just plain inefficient and stupid. We already have to wait long enough to get on the damn plane.

I don't think they're going to much, they still will probably focus on drugs and guns. But they'd be allowed to. And yes. It's a violation of privacy. That's where we're headed these days. Drop individuals rights to privacy in favor of corporate rights to profit.

Acta censors the internet worse than SOPA/PIPA.

SOPA = Everything on the internet goes underground with no DNS record.
Alternetive Nameservers begin to sprout everywhere.

ACTA = 1984 (If you haven't read the book, or seen the movie, you should)

To be fair that one is basically true, when was the last time anyone not painfully middle class and cultured went to the theatre.

I'm dirt poor, but I enjoy live theatre. am I cultured? fuck no! but I have a tremendous appreciation of art.

I can't help but simply LOL at the replies and enjoy the references to dystopic videogames and books that I highly enjoy.

IOW: I don't have or want to add anything productive but still feel entitled to do so.

FREE SPEECH FTW!
