Topic: Your Opinion: The most pointless video game ever made

Posted under Off Topic

Whether it is for the Xbox 360, the WII, the PS3, even PC, or any other video game console... what is the most POINTLESS video game that you have read about, have seen, or have played?

Updated by user 11193

All of the "Street Fighter 2" sequels, such as Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Super Street Fighter 2, Ultra Mega Super Street Fighter 2 EX Turbo Series SP8 Build 9000, etc.

Action 52 on NES is the pinnacle of pointlessness, though.

Spore's a good contender. There was all this amazing, optimistic talk about how everything was going to be procedurally generated, that how you developed your creature would affect how well it can walk, how capable it is at fighting and all that.

Then it all gets reduced to just a dressing for some of the most shallow game mechanics ever by making it so that only the stats of the body parts you use matter.

And then the rest of the game is a single player MMO.

Portal.

Seriously though, I'd say Gauntlet: Dark Legacy for the GBA. That game was such horrible crap.

Tic Tac Toe. Granted not really a game since there're easily known distinct solutions..

Nope.
Thrill of exploration. Satisfaction of creation. Tense battles, a competent modding community, regular updates, reasonable price, robust multiplayer components...

I dunno... It comes in handy when your packing things for moving/long trips...

But as for the most useless game.... I'd have to say any and all Barbie games...

Updated by anonymous

Little girls freak out over Barbie games, so it gets them to shut up. That's priceless.

There is no such thing as a "pointless" video game. They were all designed and created with some form of a point to them. Now, if you meant the greatest time-waster? tetris still reigns supreme.

Why is it a waste if it provides personal entertainment? Because you don't get anything else out of it, like with virtually every other video game?

I'd have to say runescape. Used to be fun, but can be addictive & eat alot of your time away.

most POINTLESS game? hmm, that's tough...
I'd say World of Warcraft is pretty pointless. After you've grinded your way to level 80 and go on epid raids with 8 other nerds who refuse to talk about anything outside of the game itself, you still have nothing to show for it except for fewwer friends and several months less left to live. It's neither mentaly nor visually stimulating. It's just about repetative actions slowly turning your brain into a grey goop!

or maybe one of the billions of WoW knock-offs out there, as they lack the same scale of "community" and have poorly designed UIs.

good choice, but i wouldn't say it was pointless! it had a lot of good ideas and, if nothing else, exposed just how soul-crushing EA is to its developers :V

85

9. Well, for me it was 8, but that's because I always played with my nerd-husband.

other nerds [who refuse to talk about anything outside of the game itself,

really? huh. Let me see... I think my last raiding guild spent more time talking about football then gaming, even while raiding. we had a guy who coached football, 2 DJ's, a web developer, a pair of security guards, I think, a guy who works in a printshop.. hmm... and a chef, I think.

Those are totally the most nerdy professions in existece.

Also, I'm totally loving the football minigame in wow. yep. as well as the talk of kids (new minipet!), magic (next expansion: bard class) and other life related topics.

you still have nothing to show for it except for fewwer friends and several months less left to live.

Except I still talk to some of those people, even though I've quit playing wow. I may not have the nights I spent killin' arthas back, but I have a lot of good memories as well as the confidence that, yeah. That thing I decided I wanted to do for a few months? I did it good.

Also, I have ALL THE MONEY I saved from not going out to movies, bars, buying new xbox games, and so forth... considering any one of those things would cost more then the n 15$ subscription fee, I think I'm doing pretty good.

It's neither mentaly nor visually stimulating. It's just about repetative actions slowly turning your brain into a grey goop!

One could say that about many things. Television anyone?

but I, personally, do find the game and playing it to be interesting. I work better with people, I have gotten better at verbally communicating with people in short circumstances (this is actually something I have always had problems with), I often stopped and stared in awe at the beautify of the digital world around me.

Maybe my opinion is a bit different because I always play with a friend and we find a lot of joy in reading the quests, and taking part in the story being told. Maybe it's because I don't see the game as 300 more XP, 2 more intellect, 5 more endurance, etc.

But I think wow's at least as worth while as other past times out there.

or maybe one of the billions of WoW knock-offs out there, as they lack the same scale of "community" and have poorly designed UIs.

Ah, but, as long as you have your fun with it.. isn't it worth it? paying to go see a movie, to go buy a book, or Television or any number of things..

more on topically, I think this is the most pointless game: http://www.kongregate.com/games/pitergames/trollface-launch

walk it out, a wii title i believe and you have to, you guessed it, walk. but wait! there's a catch. you have to do it, TO A BEAT! with over 100 tracks this game promises mind-numbing yawn-inducing boredome that will make you want to grab your mp3 player and go for a REAL walk outside.

I threw a lot of bananas trying to get the hamburger too.
I'm beginning to doubt the effort was worth the reward.

Blasphemy! But seriously, you now see why I nominated it for "most pointless game ever made". I also think they made a 3D version of the game. And I use the term game very loosely.

IMO he's not that hard, it's pretty much memorization.

I had so much trouble with Dracula because his pattern is random :/
