Topic: MLP role-playing questions and answers.

hey. i was hoping to make this forum to address a lot of questions some may have, and hopefully fill in any fears people may have now.

so I got up the next day to read over some of my fav posters, to see a very long (and bad role-play play out.)

here-http://www.e621.net/post/show/154967/alicorn-blush-equine-female-friendship_is_magic-ha

well here is my only question about it. the RP in it was off, and because of some not following the story of the post made some rage.

then Aurali said:
Warning, any more roleplaying will result in bans. that is all.

(in which got the one trolling the RP in the first place banned for a week.)

now before the admins thank I'm just posting out of rage of it. i agree with him/her stopping it, as the role-play was getting out of hand on that post.

but what i want to ask, as the post made was a little unclear, is ALL role-play banned now? or was he/she wanting the post on that page to stop?

why i ask is it seems from that post, and ban after which has not only stopped any kind of RP, but has put fear in anyone to even post a Respond to any pic regarding MLP.

so hopefully we will get word back about this soon.

also wanted to add to the ones that are role-playing. yes I'm in this group as well, so I will need to make some changes to the way I been role-playing, but anyways some of the role-playing is very funny, and a lot of people enjoy seeing it on the site, hell theirs a group of people that only just read the role-play we do.

what I'm trying to state is sometimes we get off of subject so badly, that it don't even fit the pic anymore.

exp here-http://www.e621.net/post/show/149349/2011-aloe_-mlp-bubble_bath-courage_-mlp-dancing-dr

why i picked this one is this was my own work being RP on. so when it went from "being at a spa" to "Now over 4,000,000 ponies are dead and I don't know how many casualties you got, but now we have an eternally crescent-shaped moon!"

this I didn't like, as it was sooo far off the pic it was crazy, and it's done a lot in pics, the role-playing not fitting the pics that is.

so in all a lot of people enjoy the role-playing on this site, as it's easy to follow, and can put a pic to the RP. but i can see why it can get out of hand.

if role-playing on this site is still ok (and i hope so) it maybe needed to have a simple page/note made to have all the people that will be doing it to follow some simple rules. and maybe even go as far as have a role-playing master to look over it all. and to keep the subject in line/not let the role-playing get to large that it becomes annoying. maybe even add a "role-playing" tag to any pic that it is being done on, so it is easy to track.

so what are the thoughts of the admins? is roleplaying still allowed, and if so will some of the stuff i said help fix the problems we have out of it?

I think if all roleplaying were banned one of the mods would have made a thread about it on the forums (even put a notice about it in the news banner).

Aurali only responding in that particular post probably means she was only referring to that specific roleplay and the people involved.

I think.

Solution? Banish pony roleplaying/accounts completely to other pony sites (Like Aurali's this site does not exist.). But I have to ask other admins before I do so, and since Char, Aurali and RenaDyne (Celestia) all support ponies, I wouldn't have a chance. They probly won't budge their ponying from here.
Fuck it all. More ponyfaggotry, CAN'T WAIT. ugh.

i somewhat agree, the roleplaying is very entertaining, BUT it is getting way out of hand

I find the MLP roleplaying entertaining in small doses, when it's in-character and relevant to the pic. When it gets up to 30+ responses and devolves to things like Captain Courage's second example, I lose interest. As in all things, I think a certain level of maturity and moderation (self-moderation, not admin-moderation) makes it a LOT better.

Roleplaying is tolerated to an "Extent" as long as its not Sexual, creepy, or constantly yammering on about "Saving someone with my guns" and doesn't fill 50+ posts In short, short quick entertaining bursts of RP. A lot of the stuff me and Luna do for example, a quick back and forth, maybe three or four posts each, and we're done. And it never gets into that "Squick" realm, which is what the admins are trying to avoid.

....we so were not ready to go public with that, river, thank you ._.

anyway, in regards to the pony roleplay, I believe, as Celestia said, our general rule of thumb is keep it short, and keep it PG-ish or lower. we don't want roleplay about smut, and sex on a cute picture of two ponies sitting next to each other. It both violates the spirit of the ratings system ("oh, look, a picture of Fluttershy with a butterfly! how cute.. Let's look at the comm--oh god, WHY?"), and gets into 'hella creepy territory'.

For some people, ponies are a ... thing that shouldn't be tainted. There are many users who blacklist all rating:e pony images... comments shouldn't violate that.

Seeing as how that thread about MLP roleplaying I was originally going to post this in got locked, I will post it here instead:

It's all stupid. e621 is about the art, not what you'd do if you were a pony from a fictional TV show. There are plenty more pony sites who will tolerate your pony roleplaying better than this one.
Fuck. Pony. Roleplaying. I would ban it entirely if I could. Fucking hierarchies.
This may sound like whining, but it's how I feel.

River, let's... chill out a bit, eh? your opinion has been voiced. <3

I could write a long reply about comments being unnecessary to the art in general, and pony comments not hurting anything, but it won't help. just.. yeah. your voice has been heard. <3

Ehh, i think it should stay because it can add some depth and fun into a post. But you are right, smut and overly long rp sections shouldn't be here. They're all doing it in a good spirit, but then there are the ones which just turn into creepy or just disruptive. If i want to read Twilight and crew's lewd adventures, i will turn to one of the hundred's of filthy fanfic-thingies out there, thank you very much! But i'm not the one calling the shots here, so i just threw my two cents here, if you don't mind.

I understand River's position that the comments/RP are, at best, unnecessary to the art (which is the site's primary focus), and at worst can detract from it. That said, many's the time I have looked at a pic (often pony-related), scrolled down to the comments, and laughed my tail off. On the other paw, if I see a long string of comments that don't enhance/detract from the pic, I just don't read them.

I've chuckled at the short 1-3 post RPs a few times, others I've frowned at (mostly because they seem destined for the Barbados Triangle) but most RP I'd frankly not see. I'd rather see crap like "Hot!" or "I'd bone her!" or simple immature crap like that then someone roleplaying in the commentary section. Comments are for comments. Not for roleplaying. If you wanna roleplay, please, can you do it somewhere else/in private?

I think if you wanna roleplay, use the PM section for it, that's one of the reasons they exist. I like to read the comments as much as the next person, but RP (especially creepy sex RP and really bad one liners) is where I draw the line. Or maybe we could make a forum topic specifically for free range RP.

I think it should be cracked down upon and cracked down hard. It's all creepy and stupid as shit and is both a waste of time and bandwidth for the website.

How's 'bout I crack down on you instead, Blaz-kun? <3~

Wow. The excess RP on post #154967 sure makes me glad I don't click through to the pony images very often. If that's representative, it's no wonder so many people hate the pony crowd.

None of it is. Point me to a 'funny' RP and I'll eat my own fucking head.

Any use of this site is a privilege rather than a right, and seeing as this is basically a creepiness purge, I'm perfectly happy with gentle, loving amounts of ban being handed out for it.

A small amount of short, silly back and forth can be cute, if it's vaguely witty and non-creepy. Great long threads of soul-sucking drivel on every single fucking post though? Moon.

I think it's downright rude for members to fill comments with large amounts of role play, be it pony, hipsters, or otherwise. They're essentially pushing away anyone else who might want to comment on the picture, and I think that only adds to the impression non-role players sometimes get of role players being elitist jerks.

Still, obviously, there are those who enjoy role playing and those who enjoy reading it. Even more obviously, the majority of role players aren't jerks but do get carried away on occasion, just as non-role players do. I can't stop them and I wouldn't want to even if I could (because who'd be the elitist jerk then?).

If I may recommend a possible solution, it would be along the lines of Princess Celestia and Anomynous's guidelines: keep it short (under 5-10 posts overall as a general rule of thumb?) and on the topic of whatever the picture is about (without being creepy about it). If a role player feels they can't do either, they still have a choice of many other pictures. This way, the role players can have their fun without marginalizing the rest of us.
