Topic: race/species tags

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

I was fixing some tags for D&D related pictures, and noticed that there's a bit of an inconsistency when it comes to tagging different species. For example, "dragonborn" and "rakshasa" are character tags, while "tiefling" and "kobold" are general tags.

I haven't checked if this issue is also present outside of D&D images, but I was wondering what the official policy is on tagging species and race, and whether they're supposed to be character tags or general tags (I'm guessing general, but I'd like to be certain).

Properly? General. With an implication to D&D prolly.

Character tags are for names of specific characters, not races.

That's what I thought, thanks for the answer.

Adding an implication to D&D wouldn't necessarily be a good idea, since for a bunch of those races D&D is neither the only nor the original source to include them.

Besides that, is there a way to change character tags to general tags? I know how to do it the other way around, but when I try to make a character tag into a regular tag it doesn't seem to stick.

Tried that, doesn't work.

I tried it on http://e621.net/post/show/64400, but every time I save the change it just uses the character tag again. If you look at the tag history you'll see three edits by me where nothing was actually changed, even though I used general:dragonborn.

while we are on the subject of D&D, I was wondering if it legal to upload pics from the Wizard D&D archives to here. To be honest, I uploaded a few but stopped since I didn;t know if it could get the site in trouble.

I think users with basic accounts have to go to the tag edit page

http://e621.net/tag/index?order=date

in order to edit tags after they've been created. I had the same problem as Wahai before I got a privileged account.

Come to think of it... I'm not even sure why I got it in the first place. I don't do much around here.

Actually, trying to change anything from that page gives me an "Access denied" error. So it looks like basic users simply can't change tag types that aren't general.

So yeah, if anyone could change Rakshasa to a general tag as well that'd be swell. I'll use this thread to report similar mixups if I come across any.

All a user has to do to change a tag type is edit the tags on a picture that contains the tag, and add the type in front of the tag that they're wanting to change the type of.

For example, to change "artist-xyz" from a general tag to an artist tag, you'd click "edit" on the image in question, then change "artist-xyz" to "artist:artist-xyz". That will change the tag type to an "artist" tag for "artist-xyz".

It doesn't seem to be a rights issue, as I just tested and can change tag types without a problem.

I know. I can change tags from general to artist or character without any problems. However, as I said before

The change doesn't seem to stick when I want to change a character tag to a general tag.

[EDIT] Huh, and now it does. I just changed Rakshasa to a general tag. So unless someone happened to change it at the same time as me it seems like it works.

I have no idea what caused the initial problem then. I tried to change the dragonborn tag three times and three times it failed. I did the exact same thing with the rakshasa tag and it just worked.

e6 breaks sometimes.
In case you haven't noticed already.

Sometimes you can change tag types, sometimes you can't.

As for the implications to D&D: i'm saying that for things that are obviously D&D. Would you say that most of the art you see for the Tarrasque isn't D&D-based?
