transformation is the act of "OH GOD I"M CHANGING INTO SOMETHING WEIRD, MY HUMAN FLESH IS GROWING FUR!"

ponification is "hey, I want to draw the cast of men in black as ponies, lol" no 'changing into a pony' is suggested.

This is honestly not too different from, say, drawing sonic as a human, drawing cute_anime_girl as a furry, or with animal_ears. there's rarely a case of "omg, how did I become this"... it jsut IS with ponification.
