Topic: Site problems

Posted under General

Anyone else having issues navigating the site? It takes me about 5 minutes to get from page to page and am unable to view images or even thumbnails. Also, I can't connect to the IRC, as it keeps timing out. Just says
Unable to connect : java.net.ConnectException : Connection timed out: connect

It could be your internet connection, that's why I always have trouble doing things around the site.

Well, I'm supposed to, but it behaves more like a 28k modem sometimes >:(

well according the verizon lady, cable internet is set up so that there is only one line per neighborhood; all the people with cable internet have to share it. this means when your neighbors use it, it slows you down. i don't know how true this is, but all i know is that i had no problems with verizon internet, only my cable internet. sometimes it gets so bad that i can't connect to the internet for up to a couple hours.

There is SOME truth to this. Yes, cable internet in a neighborhood is "shared", but the cable company also imposes maximum download and upload speeds per house. So while your download speed may be capped at 25mbps, that doesn't mean that the line that services the entire neighborhood can only download at 25mbps. That main line could be something like 1 Gbps instead (completely pulling that number out of my ass, btw), which would service a whole lot of houses that can download at a max of 25mbps each at the same time with no slowdown.

Would that cover EVERY house in a neighborhood downloading at 25mbps simultaneously? Of course not, but then again you're never ever going to see every house in a neighborhood downloading at their maximum speed at the same time anyways.

I should also add that the quality of the service entirely depends on the ISP and your location. I remember back when I first got cable internet (like early 2001), it got HORRIFICALLY slow during the evenings, which was the peak usage time for my area. Things have improved considerably since then of course, but for a few months it was pretty terrible.

The bottom line is that if you're very rarely or never getting your maximum connection speed from your cable company, call and complain. You have every right to, because you're paying for service that you're not getting.

Just kidding char I love you <3

this is truth. sometimes, your internet is gonna be reaally slow depending on how big your hub is. when I first got cable, I NEVER had speed because they never split the hub and there was 3 times more than the max allowance. (I wasn't supposed to know this)

However, complain about it. Complain like the wind luvda, the companies love giving you your money back when your not getting what you pay for.. I think those first few months we paid for 4 days internet?

this. Just be nice and polite... but firm. no one WANTS to help someone who's being a belligerant asshole. Flies, honey, etc. It may also be that your modem is dying or similar. I got utterly horrible speeds, and frequently disconnects and the techs just kept saying that our lines looked good and then finally someone said "hey, let's look at your modem"...

Most companies nowadays provide a modem with the service for a small rental fee; If yours is one of those, and they aren;t finding line problems, get them to send a tech out to get a new modem to you asap. Don't expect it same-day or even the next day, though; TTicket systems are very limited in how they allow you to schedule techs, and I can assure you, being one of those CSRs dealing with people over the phone and handling the tickets, it wasn't easy telling people that sometimes we didn't have any techs available for the week because they were already booked solid.

I have the same problem about loading time. I have wireless Internet and I though it was just my connection that was bad but while the page on e621 is loading, other websites works perfectly, so it's not my connection. Not a big problem for me because I am not hasty, but sometimes it's annoying >:

The website was not working for 2-3 hours last night. Since that, browsing on e621 is way better and faster. I guess the website got an update, and I want to say thanks for that :3
