That's where the conflict comes in. Alias restroom -> bathroom or bathroom -> restroom?

I say alias them both to "powder_room" because here at e621, we like to keep things classy.

I'd use my first example, restroom to bathroom.

They both mean the same thing
I'm not sure that they do. Restroom tends to imply it's public, and it looks like it's being used correctly.

True.
The difference between a restroom and a bathroom is that the latter have some kind of bathing facilities. Either a bathtub or a shower. Usually private.
Whereas restrooms are generally public toilets.

All of those images have the bathroom tag and I'm pretty sure those locations are not private. (There's way more but I don't want to fill up my reply with links)

Yep, those get mixed up a lot. I'm not sure if they're worth keeping separate, even though there is a difference.

Yes, the bathroom tag is a bit dirty, but the restroom tag seems pretty clean. Maybe we could just imply restroom to bathroom and update the wiki?

I'm not sure. I'm still stuck on aliasing because one of the tags seem redundant imo

Not always, in some parts of the globe a bathroom is simply any room with a toilet in it, public or private.
In Ohio, where I grew up, it was more common to say "I'm going to the bathroom" than anything else.
Really it comes down to regional preference like soda vs pop.

My opinions exactly

I wouldn't normally advocate tagging niggling details like this one, but I think public toilets are relevant to certain fetishes.

Good point.
And there's not that many public toilets under the bathroom tag, wouldn't take long to sort them out. So I think a minor cleanup might suffice in this case.

Alrighty, I've done some research and I think cleaning up the tags is the best thing to do. As for the wikis, the bathroom tag is for private toilets and the restroom tag is for public toilets. How's that sound?

how about an additional alias of restroom to public_restroom to help clarify usage?

Inaccurate to a large numer of people's usage of the term(s).

Sounds better to me.

Sounds like a good idea. Public restrooms are usually dirty and disgusting and knowing e621 it's probably a fetish here.

Agreed, will alias restroom to public_restroom and have the tags split. Should public_restroom implicate bathroom though?

I think so.
Seems like a fairly typical set/subset situation.
Public restrooms are bathrooms, but not all bathrooms are public restrooms.
