Despite being described as a shirt, after reading the wiki page more fully and doing some other research... it looks like the length is very often more like a tunic. Can look like a shirt if the length is tucked in. A tunic more often. Or can even look like a very simple dress sometimes too.

In fact, most of my research focuses on the term = the traditional embroidery and the exact type of clothing is not as significant as the type of stitches and colors used in very traditional patterns.

So I don't think this should be implicated to any specific type of clothing. It is more about the stitched patterns. But perhaps we could implicate vyshyvanka to -> embroidery?

Reason: Even if the exact clothing type (shirt, dress, tunic, blouse) varies, the actual defining trait of vyshyvanka is its embroidery. Without that embroidery, it literally wouldn't be vyshyvanka.

Speaking as a Ukrainian who has many vyshyvanka, it is a shirt. While some can be longer, and they're traditionally worn untucked, they are typically no longer than a typical western button down. Anecdotally I can't think of anyone who would call them a tunic instead of a shirt

And yes, the embroidery is the distinguishing feature, usually if its not a shirt the garment type would follow, ex. vyshyvanka dress
