The bulk update request #12799 has been rejected.
mass update slugcat_(rain_world) -> slugcat
create alias slugcat_(rain_world) (0) -> slugcat (4231)
Reason: "slugcat_(rain_world)" is incorrect form. 3 uploads have this tag.

You can't update and alias a tag in the same BUR, and you also don't need to update tags you're going to alias if it's the same target, the alias will already move the posts
Also as it mentions, the alias already exists in forum #391674
Actually, the tag is already aliased, that alias was approved over a year ago

It's a cached value, not a live value
I'd suspect it being some race condition or conflict when updating the tag's post count since it happens while the post is being saved
Tag counts can also be negative, that happens often when clearing a large tag (like invalid_tag)
Overall it isn't a big issue, and staff can run a fix on any tag to correct its count

Not needed because it is already done. The display tag count was off, but that sometimes happens and is just cosmetic, no actual posts are stuck there. By the time I checked it, someone on staff had already run the fix for that too, so everything should be good now.
For future reference, this is not something that an alias/BUR can fix. It will eventually at some point update itself. But if it is causing any kind of issues, it can also be manually updated by a staff member as needed. Just to help explain this a bit better for future searchers.
