It has been many years now since VR hit the mainstream and we've gotten through many of the growing pains that the early headsets had. We've also seen a wide variety of price ranges emerge which made VR reasonably accessible to the majority of the population. I would wager to say that a good amount of the people who peruse this site have access to a VR headset of some sort. It begs the question: Is there a demand for VR content on e621?
Alright, enough with the presentation.
I know that the website Sketchfab.com has had this tech working for a very long time. A web-page embedded 3d scene which can be viewed and explored either on your 2D screen or via a VR headset. Their website hosts thousands of these 3d scenes that can be viewed and interacted with, all uploaded by users. The only problem is, sexual / explicit content is highly regulated and nudity is typically only allowed if it is used as an artistic device. Any outright sexual interaction is forbidden.
In the early days of sketchfab, before these rules were written, I saw many furry / nsfw uploads pop up and I thought that it was awesome being able to experience these things in VR, and I've been chasing that ever since...
I know there's been a bunch of work going into the website lately so maybe now might be a good time to dip our metaphorical toes in the metaphorical water. Currently, I know there's tons of furry nsfw models out there that are not very appreciable just because there is no real medium to view them in. Most of the time, it either necessitates a game of some sort, or just flat out download blender and re-learn all the plugins you need to view the model and pose it around and place lighting and all that nonsense... There is a BIG area of opportunity for e621 to be the first site to officially support something like this.
Idk about you but to me, that sounds amazing.
