Topic: How do you like your four-armed and multi-armed people? Do you prefer them Machamp, Fourarms, Muffet, or Alexis style?

Posted under Art Talk

Pokemon's Machamp, Ben 10's Fourarms, Undertale's Muffet, or Sleeps-Darkly's Alexis?

Machamp: A second pair of shoulders with arms and hands coming out from above or behind the main pair, where it logically makes sense for the back and pectoral muscles to interact with them.

Fourarms: An extra pair of shoulders with arms and hands coming out of the sides of the chest, beneath the main pair of arms, like an insect's extra limbs?

Muffet: The extra arms emerge from somewhere vaguely behind her around the shoulder or chest or back area so nobody has to think about it too hard and any artist drawing her in more detail can imagine it however they want.

Alexis: Or do you prefer when the pectorals and shoulders and breasts are doubled, like in https://e621.net/posts/5167406?q=four_arms+four_breasts this piece of art? I couldn't recall the names of any anime or cartoon characters whose four arms work that way so I searched for a character on this site for an example.

Why is nobody posting in this thread? Did I make it in the wrong place?

No, you made it in the right place.

It's just, I guess nobody is interested?

I guess that makes sense. It is a pretty niche topic. I just figured if any place would have fellow four-arms-lovers with opinions on the best way to present them it'd be here.

I do personally prefer the "stacked duplicate"(alexis example) configuration(sometimes including the entire copy of the torso like here post #3661145 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQnSj_seAhA&t=328s), it also happens to to be the configuration that got me interested in multi in the first place years ago(post #951861).
Always found the Machamp style having the extra arms attach behind the primary shoulders or behind the neck and inverted in the way they articulate to be rather awkward/off balance. They often seem like they could fall backwards at any moment and I doubt you could actually punch someone or do much else with arms attached like that. granted stacked duplicates would face their own limitations on the range of motion as well if the arms attached too close to each other and where the same size...

Normally beings with multiple humanoid torsos are a step too far for me (It's fine when the second torso is animal like with centaurs/wolftaurs*) but I love the animation on that pink Dragon. It's so smooth and fluid! It feels like this creature has existed before long enough to be comfortable in her own skin and know how to move around in it with a believable amount of fluid grace. Looking at her in motion is captivating!

*taurs comes from tauros means bull and they'd probably hate us calling them that lol

Speaking of four-armed people actually using their four arms in animation, you'd think there would be more examples of characters using two of their arms to grapple two of their foe's arms, then deliver some unobstructed face and body shots with their secondary pair of arms. Or to grab the foe's head or shirt with one hand and pull the foe into punches made with the other hands. But usually the arm sets move and act in complete sync even though it's less efficient and damaging. Most of the power in a punch doesn't come from the arms themselves.

I feel like the extra arms attaching behind the primary shoulders is something that only works when those arms are increased in size so it's easier for them to reach forwards and do stuff. Like how Popcross Studios did the Fourarms mech. https://youtu.be/GJRMXLuDwXY?t=297
