Topic: [REJECTED] Tag implication: oliver_prince -> arctic_fox

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag implication oliver_prince -> arctic_fox (forum #473637) has been rejected by @furrypickle.

To explain why: we don't implicate characters to a specific species. Because it is always possible for a character to also be drawn as a different species. If we implicated this character to arctic_fox just because that is their normal species...and then maybe one day the character owner has them touch a cursed necklace and turned into a cat version of their character for just one or two commissions. Or a storyline with an alternate world where they become humanized for a few images. Or maybe they have a bunny version made for Easter themed art just for fun one year. Or maybe a friend turns their character into a dragon version as a gift one time. Of course know what the character's normal usually is, but that doesn't stop someone from being creative with it now and then over the years. And on those few occasions, the species tag needed would be different than what is usual for that character.

I'm sure they will still be tagged with whatever species fits, even without an implication. But this way if there is ever an exception, it won't have the wrong species tag being force added by the system.

There's also the possibility of a cosplay scenario in which someone dresses up for them for some reason, but there are no arctic foxes shown in the picture. They would still be tagged, but the arctic_fox implication would also still be wrong.

Thank you for your reply, it absolutely makes sense. My bad, I am used to systems where implications can be overridden on a per-post base. I'm new to e621's system, I didn't know it was not possible. I guess I can tag where it is missing on existing posts?

You can search oliver_prince -arctic_fox to see all posts that feature said character that is also not tagged with arctic_fox (yet).

Just be mindful that you should not automatically or blindly blanket-tag all posts with the species tag just because the character appears as such most of the time for the reasons already mentioned above.
Check and see if the posts could have that species tag, within reason and without conflict, before adding it.
