A couple questions about the eyeshadow tag:

  • Is it fair to call something like this eyeshadow just because the eyelid is a different color than the surrounding face and is a possible natural eyelid color?

Slightly different color than the surrounding face:

Similar color found on another body part:

  • Should this be tagged as eyeshadow or eyeliner since it is just a strip of color and does not cover the whole eyelid?

Honestly the entire concept of tagging any kind of makeup feels antithetical to the TWYS rule since there's no way to know, out of context, if a character is wearing it or if that's just what their character looks like. Much like how we'd never dare imply a character with an unnatural hair or fur color dyes it unless they're being shown doing so in the image itself. There's enough of a precedent in animation for animal characters to be drawn consistently with darkened or odd-colored eyelids without any implication that they actually have to put on eyeshadow in the morning, some of whom couldn't possibly (Rita from "Oliver and Company" and Ruby from "Lady and the Tramp II" come to mind). Similarly it used to be standard for human and humanoid women and girls to be drawn with full red lips even if they're too young to be wearing lipstick.

I've just been adding the [color]_eyelids tag wherever it comes up, along with "glistening_eyelids" if they're also shiny. I don't know what the equivalent tag is for the entire eyesocket area, like in your Undyne pic. Probably should find out. Other than that, I don't think I have much to contribute to the discussion other than what I've just said.

I mean, you could say that about, like, literally anything that sits on a character's body. is it bodypaint or makeup or a tattoo a brand or body writing or a marking or a scar or even is it clothing or part of their body, are they real horns or fake horns, etc.. we just gotta make inferences what the contents of a post is based on context sometimes, that's true for a bunch of instances.
