Topic: (Lots of) Images not on here.

Posted under Art Talk

To give y'all an idea and context, it took me about 30 minutes of inspecting this "forum" section, looking for the box to write a new post in, only to realise the button to write a new post is hidden in a bar uptop and only labeled "new" instead of "write a new post" or something. That confused the hell out of me. This is where my computer skills are at.

Now that first impression is given, i hope you understand that people like me, technologically blind rednecks, are far from the best at posting either forum posts, or images.

Now the other day i was *trying* to find some new images on other websites, as the image list of what i'm looking for in here is rather short, only to find out that on Furaffinity, there's actually a second hidden gallery most artists have and it's named "scraps" (and its as hard to find as the new forum post button in here)

And so i stumbled upon this: (Warning: Cartoon furry feet stuff ) https://www.furaffinity.net/scraps/3rdharleyjoe/

Why is there absolutely NONE of these pictures on here? They litterally fit our tags and content and context, why did no one upload them??

Don't ask me, i don't even know how to upload an image correctly without behing fed a bunch of red error boxes i don't care to read.

I've managed to upload 1 of these pics (the best in my opinion) after a nearly 1 hour fight with the system, but it took me so long, its so tedious to do for a redneck like me when some tech-savvy nerds can do it with one hand tied behind their backs and blindfolded.

The responsibility to upload images should not fall onto the least capable individual on this website. There are 314 posts of 3rdHarleyJoe's artwork on here, so unless i'm the first man on earth to step foot in the scraps section of his artwork, someone should have uploaded these here already since months if not years.

Can't AI take care of automatic uploads anyway?? Like, so we don't miss out on >>>>public released<<<< content of authorised artists here that sits hidden in other websites that people like me don't know shit about? Surely there's an app or program that can take care of automatically uploading and even tagging images apropriately so this doesnt happen.

Because there's a lot of posts and a lot of artists? There's no one who's interested enough in that artist's works to upload them here?

You're the first one with the knowledge of, willingness, and know-how of how to upload

Suggesting e6 scrape other websites for content (with AI even) is antithetical to everything e6 stands for

Uploading takes even experienced uploaders several minutes, there are minimums to meet and limits in place (at most 30 posts can be uploaded an hour regardless of what level you are or what permissions you have)

When people attempt to get to that 2 minutes per upload minimum, they tend to start missing obvious tags, not hitting the minimum, not tagging artists, etc

Not to mention that the vast, vast majority of users have a maximum amount of posts they can have pending, 10 is the default and it goes up by one with each approved upload

The is an unrestricted uploads permission which automatically approves uploads that 291 users have (note, the 30 per hour limit still appies) but most of these are staff, former staff, or artists. Most of these aren't power uploaders that can upload tens of thousands of posts

Also anything remotely ai needs to stay miles away from the site, e6ai has done untold amounts of damage to the site and we don't need actual ai in the site to make the claims real

Also not to mention that letting ai upload and tag posts would result in sloppy tagging bypassing blacklists, incorrect ratings, inferior uploads, etc

I mean this sincerely and without sarcasm— Thank you for your help in adding to e621's content. I don't doubt it was difficult for you this time, but you did it.

Because no one's bothered to upload them yet. Simple as that.

The responsibility to upload images should not fall onto the least capable individual on this website. I'm sure a number of people have looked at those pictures since they were posted, but that doesn't mean any of those people were e621 Users. We're only a tiny minority of furry and adjacent fans. Most of us don't upload much, and only a small handful of us are prolific power uploaders. And there are lots of artists out there, many of whom haven't even had anything uploaded here — yet. You may indeed be the first e621 User to have ever run across those particular pictures and considered them for upload.

You're thinking of bots rather than AI. Bots are basically programs that can automatically do tedious and continuous tasks faster than a human can. Like go to links on a gallery page and download what they find there, copy down tags on that gallery page, and transfer both over to be posted someplace else. The amount of people in our fandom capable of competently programming such things are a tinier minority than there are Users of e621, and it's an even tinier minority (as in you can count them on one hand and we're lucky to have that many) of competent enough programmers who are actively working with the site. There's a mountain of stuff they want to do to the site but coming up with reasonably capable bots to scrape various sites for stuff is not on that list.

Because bots are absolutely stupid.

Because humans can do a far better job.

Bots can only do what they're programmed to do. They don't understand why they're doing it. They can't choose to go explore new places that might not make logical sense. They can't make judgement calls on what pictures have the quality or relevance to upload here or which tags are valid and which ones might be jokes, assuming there are any tags available in the first place. They can't do anything more than the simplest organizing of anything. They will break or grind to a halt if something happens that they aren't specifically told how to handle. As for AI? Those are just much more sophisticated bots.

There's only one computer in existence that stands a chance of being remotely capable of competently finding pictures, judging if they are of a quality and relevance to be uploaded to e621, perhaps asking the artist if it's okay to upload their stuff here, figuring out the tags needed for each picture, maybe creating and organizing pools or sets, and many other little tasks that get a picture onto e621. That computer is your brain.

That's right. You, a self-described "technologically-blind redneck" who struggled for an hour to post one picture to e621, is infinitely smarter and more capable than any bot or AI out there. Sure, it was a task for you to upload something here, but you did it. A bot or AI in your situation would have errored out, either crashing or just stalling at the first sign of something it wasn't programmed to handle. Bots and AI are just highly sophisticated tools. You are much more than that.

I'm sure you could mention someplace like Rule 34 and point out that it uses bots to do a reasonably decent job of collecting and posting pictures. Sure, the tagging can be hit or miss, the organization is your choice of epithet awful, and moderation is virtually nonexistent. But what they do have is because they took it from sites like e621 and dumped it on their servers. It only resembles a decent job because humans had already done all the important work beforehand.

Oh, sure, you and all the rest of us on this site are slower, less comprehensive, and tire far more easily than any bot or AI. But we still do a far, far better job at maintaining and expanding e621 than any bot or AI.
_

Tl;dr: Redneck do better job than bots and AI.
