Topic: Hey Artists! What's your process on drawing heads?

Posted under Art Talk

Hope it is of no bother to ask, but what's your guys process on drawing heads, recently i felt my process was giving me weird results, so i went and found the Loomis method (which i was doing in reverse, drawing the cross first, then drawing the head shape instead of starting with the ball and cross).

I've got some good sketches practicing with it and since this process varies from artist to artist i wanted to know what's you guys preferred method/process/timeline.

When actually constructing a head [with a sketch and all] I usually draw a circle and then block out the shape of the nose[if it's a snout] or just do the normal cross [if it's a flatter face]. Most of the time when I'm doodling or sketching I just go with the flow, though.
Here's a little timelapse I did of a dragon head just now. It's absolutely not a super typical or "correct" way of drawing, it's just what works for me lol. A lot of how I draw is just muscle memory.

1. Circle for the basic shape of the skull. I use paint.NET circle tool because I don't give a shit
1.5. Another circle to approximate the shape of the jaw if appropriate. It would usually be smaller and offset forwards and downwards
2. Cuboid type shape for the snout. If I'm struggling with the perspective I'll draw the intersection with the circle first.
3. Draw the nose or end of the snout.
4. Construct the rest of the snout using the previously drawn nose an an "anchor" of sorts.
5. Ears/antlers/anything else that protrudes from the head.
6. Hair. I do hair last because I like to capture it flowing around the ears and other parts of the head.

That's just how it is, if it works for you then is more than perfectly fine, also your art looks really neat, great work.

Damn, very detailed break down as well, also this one process is very new to me and just saying, no problem using tools to assist (i struggled with this part for quite the while >w<) if it works to you, there's no problem at all, also, your art is so cute, you have a very good art as well, great job.

Thanks for answering guys <3
Note: Sorry for the late response, was dead tired yesterday >w<
