Topic: It seems like Pixiv got hit hard?

Posted under General

The most recent Tos update seems to pretty much ban the whole of the EU, Canada, US and UK from viewing anything that could be offensive.

Theres imaginary kids, hatespeech, non-con, incest, blackmail and the list goes on while it kind of feels like it will be made bigger in the future.

I set my location outside of North America and the EU many years ago. Maybe they're going by self-disclosed location (which you can change under "Settings" - "Language & Location") as opposed to IP address?

Just change your location to anything else or just Japan before that date and you will be fine.

I mean, they'd already blocked stuff based on that setting being set to the US/EU/whatever previously. if something's changing I'm assuming it means that they're actually going to be enforcing those same blocks based, instead, on actual geo-location data.

they might also be cracking down on artists from these same regions... more than they already had done over the past couple years.

Oh shit, you are right, I forgot that people were using fanbox instead of patreon or subscribestar for their more risky/problematic premium stuff, welp...

I think can we all agree that furry porn deserves at least the same level of scrutiny as gambling. Kids that gamble are often able to trade those goods in simulated markets, preparing them for our increasingly financialized world. It's harmless fun and only a handful of people blow their brains out over CS2 price fluctuations or get really attached to Roblox baby gambling.

On the other hand, a 15 year old might be exposed to anime incest art on Pixiv... Literally no teenager on earth wants to see that shi. Those who survive the incident tend to develop psychosis and require elctrode therapy.

Literally just set your region to Japan in the account settings. They tell you how to do that for a reason, everyone knows this pressure from religious bigots is fucking stupid and cancerous, including Pixiv themselves. All this ToS update says it's just applying what was done to the US and UK to the other regions. Change your settings and you'll be gucci. For some reason they had blocked it from accounts in the US and not Australia where it's actually illegal, they're just expanding the regions now.

My main concern here is Pixiv Fanbox, which is a valuable platform for supporting some artists I like.

I researched this (very lightly) and I think MkLXIV is probably right. A control process that launched in 2024 (region blocking) is being expanded to some new domiciles next month. The control process does drive off your manually set Pixiv region , so I don't think they're going to start blocking IPs or stop taking the major US payment processors. That would not be in their financial interests either, since like half of Fanbox users live outside of Japan, and it would be out of step with the current political culture, where Japan is pushing back against payment processor censorship on other fronts. My guess is this is probably low impact to supporters and artists, but use this thread to notify the community if there are disruptions or impacts that start in November.

That seems quite far fetched and biased towards all the wrong things.

Brits, Americans, Australians, and New Zealanders all thought the same thing when China and North Korea put in their online censorship laws.

I'm almost 100% certain it was sarcasm. There are worse, and objectively worse things on the internet, but this is what we're choosing to complain about. I remember being that age, and reality was pretty damn distinct from fantasy.

It was intended to be a sarcastic joke but now my account is getting picked apart by mods so it was def a mistake.

Conflating well known isolationist and xenophobic countries wanting to control what their own people have access to, with the UK and EU trying to acquire full dominion across the globe when it comes to online censorship, is absurd.

Australia nuking Steam should kind of be the wake up call to what online censorship consequences ACTUALLY look like. Fighting back against that kind of draconian step usually earns you the label of a bigot, a mysoginist, or they say you're spreading misinformation.

Pretty much everything conservatives fight against. I don't think "religious bigots" are pulling the strings, when it comes to nuking porn. Onlyfans is booming. Why are only the fictional characters and their creators feeling the brunt of this? ( v-tubers vs. titty streamer bias has been on full display for a few years now.)

labeling something as bigoted or calling it hatespeech, is only a tactic used by one side. Sure as shit ain't religious conservatives. Spoiler alert, religious people consume porn regularly. They don't want it gone, aside from some holdouts consisting of out of touch puritans.

Feeling pretty vindicated now, considering I was fighting censorship when normalcy was under attack for so long. People were celebrating censorship and labeling everyone they disagreed with, as windmill enthusiasts.

Look on the brightside. The things that each side hates are getting equal treatment. For once.

So true king. Only liberals are the source of all censorship. Censorious 'conservatives' are no true conservatives... they're fake Scottish. Uh, I mean conservative. There's literally no precedent for right-wing ppl trying to censor porn ever in history.

yeah, the right never lables stuff with buzzwords, they just call shit "woke", or "DEI", or part of the "gay agenda", or call it "child grooming", that's totally different.

the a portion of the conservatives, especially religious conservatives, have always, always, been pro-censorship. maybe they were just not pro-censorship of stuff you liked and you didn't notice because you don't care what happens to anyone other than yourself, or maybe you're literally deaf and blind.

Yeah, the one side that attacks gay people for not being straight.
The side that claims transgender people are targeting children & only get life changing surgery and therapy to enter opposite-gender bathrooms.
The side that calls anything not conservative 'woke'.
The side that claims gay people target children.
The side that wants to censor discussions and depictions of transgender people as 'obscene'.

Need I go on?

The right LOVES to censor anything and everything they hate (Which is everything not cisgender, hetero, and white), then point at the Left and say 'They did it!'

Shit, son; They're are LITERALLY denying 6 million hungry people food stamps (including the children they pretend to be trying to protect whenever they want to push censhorship and anti-gay/transgender laws) with their antics, and trying to blame the Left.

republicans are lying hypocrites and masters of projection.

And they try to tell everyone else what they can and cannot consume as media, be it porn or otherwise.
How many times has a right-wing d-bag or religious nut spat fire & brimstone ab out gay people, only to have it come out later that they had a male side-piece?

Just because they look at porn does not mean they can't be massive hypocrites. The right is all about 'Rules for thee, but not for me'.

Stop lying, and people will actually consider what you say. There's no point in debating flat-out falsehoods.
