Topic: Tag Re-Alias: "insectoid -> arthropod" to "insectoid -> insect"

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Having "Insectoid" aliased to "Arthropod" will pull up results of many non-insect things, such as Centipedes, Crustaceans, Scorpions, Spiders, and more.
The term "Insectoid" generally infers that the target is an insect specifically.
I feel like the current alias is a bit misleading and can cause some confusion when you find non-insects in your search for, specifically, insects.
Apologies if I'm misunderstanding the intent of the "insectoid" tag, or misunderstanding this system, this is my first time requesting an alias change ^^'

EDIT: I've seen a couple of ancient posts about potentially re-aliasing the "insectoid" tag, but none of them ever seemed to be resolved. Let me know if this is a moot post please!

To properly request a "realias", you need to first submit a Bulk Update Request (BUR) to have insectoid be unaliased from arthropod first, then submit a second BUR to have the former be aliased to insect.
Remember to include this thread as the forum topic ID so that it doesn't send the BUR to a brand new one.

As for the rationale for the current alias, insectoid has been invalidated and merged to its closest neighbour. In this case, arthropod since it covers a more broader range of "insectoid" species, which may include centipedes, spiders, etc. even through they are not technically insects. The reason why we don't alias insectoid straight to insect is probably due to the aforementioned reason.

It is fine if it is an extremely-old and probably forgotten discussion. Creating a new thread like this is a better option than to respond directly on those dead threads.

I suppose on review of this request, I can definitely see the reasoning behind keeping it aliased to arthropod. I'll give it some more thought before opening a BUR for it, thanks for the advice and input!
