Topic: My idea to improve the replacement beta tool page. (visual mockup) [feature request]

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Ive been pondering for several hours on how the replacement beta tool page could be improved. its a bare bone basic tool that could use improving in its current state in my opinion.

So i made a few visual mock ups.

Version A
https://ibb.co/xSMmn1bf

Version B
https://ibb.co/xqps20Yd

Version A has both current and replacement images side by side with all the required info above each file. (resolution, file type, and color profile.)
Version B oscillates between both images vs being side by side. Version B might be better for long comic images.

The idea for this is to make it alot easier to spot slight variations or just in general not to accidentally replace with the wrong file altogether. this should in theory improve accuracy of good replacements for users, and reduce bad replacement requests to ease work on staff here.

The cropped zoomed image below the comparison is for spotting jpg that have been resaved as PNGs. or Jpgs that have minor compression differences.
The upload button is relocated below these images to ensure users are looking at the replacements before uploading the file.

At the top of the mock up you will see a new link for tools and tips. This could lead to a forum post dedicated for replacements on how to get the best replacements files, tools like fluffle, saucenao, or similar reverse image search engines. Blusky scripts and other add-ons and scrips to further assist the user. and tag cheat sheets for finding inferior posts. i know these exist already, but there spread out. the idea is to bring it all together into one topic.

Danbooru has the ability to compare files wile uploading to its data base of existing files. if it finds a pixel perfect dup, it will let you know.

For the replacements here, if the file has been resaved but doesn't differ from the correct post, the words "pixel perfect duplicate" will appear above the file in the replacement window when file is uploaded. so the user knows it either doesnt need to be replaced, or that the post is resaved and should be replaced with the original file from the artist profile.

A few things unrelated to this mock up.
1. If a post is rejected. A way for staff to leave a reason on the rejected post so the users knows their mistake and can learn from it.
2. If a post has been rejected already by that same user a small reminder in the replacement tool page for that post so a user that does frequent replacements doesn't make that same request again by mistake.

So thats pretty much it! I'm really hoping that some of these could be incorporated in to e621 replacement tool and perhaps get it out of beta? I've spent several hours on this and my head hurts now lol.

Im open to any suggestions for improving on this further. Otherwise, i hope you like the idea.

We're currently in the closing stages of a gigantic overhaul to replacements, so I'm not sure how applicable this still is, but thank you for your input!

Oh nice! I didnt know. If any of this is of useful to you guys please feel free to use it! having a way to compare a post to another with file details would be really useful imo.

i like that note and flagging is being added. i thought about flagging so im glad thats being added

Another idea was for users to be able to swap out pending replacements if a mistake was made or to be able to request cancellation
