Sorry if this is in the wrong category, first time using the feature.
But, can cub enjoyers explain the appeal of cub to me? I can't quite grasp it and tbh it does kind squick me out. However, I'm also into darker and questionable content people would find objectionable. So I'm curious. What's the appeal? My current theory rn it's that it's somewhere in the same vein as DD/lg or DD/lb or in a related family of that kink/fetish, but I suspect I'm not correct...?
"Cute". Cute things make me happy and lewd things make me happy, so they can go well together. Perhaps "cute" and "lewd" are both "warm and fuzzy" forms of escapism. In truth, it might be more about height than age. I view a lot of feral stuff of shorter species (often pokemon, etc.) moreso than cub stuff.
There's also the whole ABDL side of it. You mentioned DD/lg and DD/lb, which might be ABDL concepts? I'm not familiar with them. I think it's safe to say a lot of cub enjoyers are "adult babies" that imagine being a cub, but I don't know a ton about the ABDL crowd.

Cute and cuddly! That's all really. The resulting size difference can be nice too. Cuteness is hot.

Same as appeal of <insert whatever here>.
I have always found nudity as something adorable, it's just how my brain was wired. The lack of clothes feels like as a state of lack of protection, a state disconnected from social norms. So cute little things look cuter if they are naked, it's pure escapism. I'm not against more explicit depictions, I have drawn it many times, but it's just an extension of that, you can do whatever in fiction and it's refreshing to know some people will always like what you draw.
I genuinely like erotic stuff depicting petite/cute anthro characters. And exaggerated childish behavior can often 'make' a good comedy. Particularly in the case of female characters. When pretty girls act childish, it adds to their femininity and attractiveness imo. But, for the typical "cub" content, when the characters are unquestionably child-coded, that's not for me. It crosses the "gross" border for me tbh.
One of the many many reasons is that I was sexually repressed being raised in an Evangelical Christian household so cub porn is sort of the opposite of that where the kids are all promiscuous. It's good that I wasn't promiscuous in real life ofc but it's fun and healing in fantasy.

I wasn't promiscuous at all growing up, even though I was raised Catholic. Hell, I'm still not promiscuous. But it's still a far cry from how I was as a kid.

I was also repressed in a Christian household. Never was allowed to explore my sexuality, told it was "bad", but never given a reason. Had numerous opportunities and moments of exploration quashed by adults who would punish me and tell me how wrong I was for my actions.
Screw me for just being a kid, right? So this kinda allows me to safely "explore" a part of my childhood I missed.

That might be why I like cub porn that seems so exploratory. They're getting to do something I didn't. (I have a whole set that relates to this. Obviously a lot of these images wouldn't actually be positive experiences irl, but they hit similar notes when explored fictionally.)

Very often, I don't self-project into porn at all, and the porn I view often doesn't involve sex anyways. If I DO for a picture involving sex, my brain is likely to prioritize:
POV > non-POV
Male > female
Human/anthro > feral
Older > younger
Giving sex act > receiving sex act
...if I self-project at all. I think cub stuff works best with casual nudity rather than sex though. See Zeklullaby's comment on nudity.

it's definitely both.
for some it's one, for some it's the other, for some it's both, depending on the moment (or even both simultaneously), and for others it's kinda none of the above.

Usually, I project onto whichever one is the girl if there's a girl in a pic. I seek out different ones depending on my mood. If it's a solo pic of a boy I might make up a scenario in my head, and if it's two boys I might project onto the cub, but I usually don't project on those at all.
I like cute and I've been drawing small characters with childish personalities my entire life. It also goes well with my stupid balloon fetish.
I think cubs are given a bad name because of people not being able to draw a line between fiction and reality. I do have those sort of people join my community every now and then.
Cute, short and sexy is my lewd thing. I definitely smash, as long as it fictional
Oddly enough im in the same boat as most people I used to be really against it but over time ive fell more and more in love with it
The style is small and cute and honestly pretty easy to draw compared to older characters in my opinion. The simplicity is enough to drive people in im sure.
However there is times where I project myself onto the cubs because I like to feel small and vulnerable which is ironic a bit because I am pretty short irl

Though it seems to be less about adult babies and more a combination of dommy mommy/cougar plus incest. Aspects of them at least.

I can attest with a lot of cub people I've spoken to that the appeal is less about being dominated and more about being the child.
