Topic: Android app installation changes

Posted under e621 Tools and Applications

Google is soon moving to requiring an account with them for developers, even with 'sideloading', ala Apple 'notarization'. Given that polices are capricious and they ban apps on the Play Store for whatever reason they feel like, I thought developers and users of apps like Wolf's Stash would want to know.

I imagine this also applies to stuff like Busybox/Termux, emulators, F-droid, VMs, and anything else of the sort. Browser JS is not a fit for things you'd do locally.

Some say that they might as well use an iPhone, but I ain't one of them! XD Having to use your phone only as a hotspot or just getting a cellular modem seems so backwards and such a wild trip.

Any thoughts/additional story links? Provided a few, myself. Remember: Keep it civil. Don't want topic locked because of doomwalling or raAAAAAAAAge or who knows what. Workarounds will likely come out as this moves forward. You can always use something else.

This comment on comparison to Mv3 on Chrome seems apt. Bootloaders that can't be unlocked, banning apps for business reasons against user's wishes, it feels like a general trend. Rossmann's video is more than a bit... spicy.
Apple had to revoke one app because of financial regulations (sanctions).
https://old.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1n3gu5g/google_is_just_going_on_a_very_bad_controlling/ I kind of agree that it seems to be badly-timed. Possibly a coincidence but Judges have been ordering Google to remove apps like a pirate IPTV and banned (X.com/Twitter) chat app. Then again, a judge tried this in 2014 and I don't think it went anywhere. Adding a revocation for sideloaded apps makes these technically feasible, soon.
