Topic: Consider renaming e621:post relationships to use different wording that children and parent.

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

In current crusade in roblox and other represion acts in name of "protecting childrens" i recommend renaming scheme in "post relationships" to use different wording. I understand you will see this pointless at first but when someone find out a they will twist it, then be to late. If you look on it pragmatically take example of this post: https://e621.net/posts/5789999

There is: "Children: 1 child (learn more) « hide" and we have tag: daddy_kink
Without context it will be twisted as PD picture. I Recommend take precaution and rename it to Master/Sub, Main/second, Main/alternative or other wording.

It will be inconvenience for uploaders but should protect us from future problems.

Just take some time to think it through until you decide, i believe it is in best interest to this site. Thanks

Parent/Child is a standard terminology in programming. I think the actual furry porn on the site would get someone's attention more than post relationship labels.

Master has it's own issues. Second doesn't work when there's multiple linked posts. Alternate doesn't work for post sequences, such as when people use child post links instead of pools (though the fix for that is to use pools).

Changing wording ahead of time makes you part of the crusade.

Yeah, no, we're not doing that, for all the above listed reasons. Roblox is a platform marketed towards and largely populated by children; we are the exact opposite situation.

Roblox also has active monthly users in the tens of millions, & does what I'll reservedly call a less than ideal job at isolating minors from adult content & isolating predatory users from minors; meanwhile, the second we have a reasonable suspicion someone's a minor, we drop-kick them from the site & report to the proper authorities. Again, completely different.

If anyone were gunning for us hard enough to try citing that, they'd just say furries are all zoophiles and be done with it. When it comes to legal concerns, we have bigger fish to fry.

Censoring the word "child" isn't the way you fight censorship. That just makes it even more censorship. There's a lot of people on other social media - youtube, etc - who feel they have to censor "child" or even numbers below 18 just because they're afraid of being demonetized. Censoring yourself and falling in line with advertiser demands isn't the way to go, OP

Is this a joke?

Even if the OP is baiting sites do this stuff all the time, like github which replaced the default master brain with main several years ago

This proposal reads like a solution in search of a problem, a cure for which there's no disease. Just because one word can be used in a tiny minority of problem cases (and not even as a slur, just to neutrally describe some of the victims) doesn't justify shaming people for using it the rest of the time. Changing the current parent/child terminology makes less sense than calling fictional depictions of fantasy cub characters in sexual situations equally as bad as real life children being exploited, distracting and diluting real issues simply for imaginary brownie points nobody cares about. Plus, any argument that boils down to "but think of the children!" is frequently little more than a bad faith attempt at emotional manipulation. Basically, this "solution" is little more than an attempt at making people afraid of two common words by turning their use into a thought crime.

As stated i mean it as precaution. You stated why and decision is made, it was all i ask to take awareness.

Just for context why. On site rule34.xxx there become clensing of feral_on_human or similar tags (fair to say mostly AI pics) and been reason for deletion "zoophilia". After all this years it doesnt make sense until someone forced this change.

Also there was my own confusion when i saw that "1 children" under picture. I genuinely thought it was version on picture where characters is depicted as "underage" and how many is on picture, until i read it what it actualy mean (pool is much better).

I saw this i told myself that can be twisted really bad, then i post it there. For bait accusation and brownie points is straight no, dont twist it.

No hard feelings, your decision to keep feature as is will be respected and this request is denied as not necessary.

We are not going to simply give in to peer pressure just because a number of sites are purging/sterilising themselves for what is probably their own good reasons.

We would only take action unless absolutely necessary if the problem presents itself as a significant financial or legal liability that we cannot ignore (e.g., the recent young human/human-like art purge).

You've been here for 10 years only to just realise post relationships are called "parent" and "child"?
Even if it did mean what you think it meant, it wouldn't change the fact that we still host many fictional artworks with young characters in it (that are not necessarily explicit in nature as well).
