Topic: Question about a future tag: is it acceptable to put a species in the tag name for a character to distinguish between two with similar names?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

So, I have a female lion character called Sophie, and I'm getting a ref-sheet done of her in her alternative reality dragon form. I would like to create a new tag for this to help distinguish between the two once the piece is finished, as naturally they will be visually different, and was wondering if a tag such as "sophie (dragon) (absoluteamoeba)" would be ok?

Just wanna get it right the first time =3
Thanks for your help!

Please see howto:tag characters on the proper formatting for character tags.

Technically, you should tag both forms as sophie_panthera, with posts containing her dragon form being tagged with the additional alternate_species tag to signify that this is not her typical form/species.
However, if you'd much prefer to have them split into two different character tags, that could be arranged as well.

You can have sophie_panthera be the main character tag for her lion form.

As for the character tag for her dragon form, I would suggest avoiding double suffixes as much as possible (e.g., name_(species)_(owner)) since that looks messy and is a hassle to type.
You can have the new character tag be in one of the following:

  • sophie_panthera_(dragon_form) - The most straightforward, but there is the downside of having an oxymoron in the name.
  • sophie_the_dragon_(absoluteamoeba) - A cleaner version than the one you had suggested.

There is at least one very similar precedent to this I can think of off the top of my head: dragon_loimu

I must admit, I'm not particularly in love with the sequential parentheses, but a quick search shows that too has precedents, both used for situations similar to yours: kay_(wolf)(thiccvally) and justin_(mouse)(aaron)

A better precedence would be Link's various forms, such as link_(wolf_form) and link_(rabbit_form).

As for the latter two suggestions, I would suggest avoiding them entirely since they do not follow proper format (see again howto:tag characters).
