In what context would this feature be used?

If you mean for post replacements or deletions of duplicate posts, this already exists.
The janitor or mod who deleted the first post can transfer the favourites and tags to the second post.

The tags too? I wasn't aware of that. I could see it being an issue though since it's not unusual for an inferior/duplicate post to not be completely identical, or be tagged differently in an incompatible way. For instance, if the inferior post is low_res and is deleted or replaced with a version that is hi_res or larger, or if the inferior has noticeable compression_artifacts that the replacement doesn't, transferring the tags would cause mistags. Or if one version of the post is tagged solo male because the tagger feels the character has a masculine enough body, while it's replaced with a post that is tagged ambiguous_gender because that tagger feels it's not conclusive enough; even though both would be tagged correctly enough, transferring/merging the tags would cause incompatible tags to be used at the same time. So even if it is an option, I could see why it should be used only sparingly.

I also don't think sources are automatically copied over, unless that's a relatively "new" feature. There'd be less of a concern of doing that by default compared to tags, while I remember having to copy sources from deleted posts to their replacement.

None of it is automatic, they're checkboxes that have to be ticked
favorites, sources, and tags can be moved
