if you are against internet censorship, please SHARE and if possible SIGN the following petitions - and encourage others to do the same

remember the time to fight back is NOW while this is still relatively small and distant

please do NOT ignore this because it is YOUR freedom that is on the line under the false guise of child protection

the solution to this issue is NOT more government control, but BETTER parenting!

thanks to any patriotic Americans who sign and share these petitions! :)

I need to get this thought out of my head, and also to bump this thread.

You know what they say about hell, the road to it is paved with good intentions.
Terry Pratchett’s hell has a staircase where every step is carved with a good intention.
“I did it for the best” “we are equal opportunity employers” or pertinently in this case “for the children”

I signed these petitions and called the office of my senator, I hope others here are able and willing to do the same.
You know, before the world actually gets a thought police that actively looks through your monitor to see what they think you’re thinking.

While this bill should be stopped? it is different from the UK law in quite a few ways. for one? no age verification mandate. In fact it seems to be more like the canadian Online harms (which was a severely toned down only taking the 'good parts' version of the UK bill) act that died with the election this year. which privacy and free speech experts seemed to like for whatever reason except for this bit at the end of the bill that people rallied against to remove that would have made it a criminal jail time offence to do hate speech online which is awful but takes things too far. Im no expert though its just from my brief reading of the bill comparing it to others

Back again, huh.
Full text of the current Senate version of KOSA https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/1748/text
Also since last time they tried to merge the two, here's CTOPPA ("COPPA 2.0") https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/836/text

Reminder that the previous version of KOSA passed the Senate 91-3 before dying in the House.

here's a TLDR of KOSA https://action.freespeechcoalition.com/bill/kids-online-safety-act-kosa-2025/

as for CTOPPA, apparently they did good changes for it? Im having trouble finding anything negative people are saying about this version so I cant judge one way or another

@kathyohneke

why should it be stopped is a good question lol, and here's the best answer i can give

this bill may be 'mild' for now but that doesn't mean things will stay that way forever

if we tolerate this, we are paving the way for FAR WORSE censorship to follow down the line

that's why any attempt at censorship must be attacked and destroyed at the first opportunity

if we don't want extreme censorship tomorrow, we have to fight 'mild' censorship today :)

I said "while" the bill should be stopped not why. I know it needs to be stopped. and I agree wholeheartedly with what you said.

I was just saying it isnt the same thing as UK's OSA. its basically comparing a slap in the face to a sledgehammer smack. you dont want ether but one is clearly worse!
