Topic: Archiving/dumping soon to be deleted NSFW itch.io browser games (instructions)

Posted under Off Topic

this was originally gonna get posted to https://e621.net/forum_topics/58612 but it's kinda derailing... check out that thread if you need some urls to search thru

i found a way to download all the assets from browser games (no guarantee they'll be playable, the worst you'll get is an asset dump, which is still pretty good)
my method works on firefox.

1. open inspect element on the game frame or nearby
2. search around for an element with id= "game_drop", copy the url the "src" of that, it should begin with https://html-classic.itch.zone/html/ or something like that
3. go to that url, now open inspect element again, go to network tab
4. hit the garbage can at the top left to reset your cache
5. hit Ctrl+R for hard reload
6. wait until all the assets are recieved, it should all appear in the network tab... typically done at startup, but a few games do this annoying thing where it only fetches assets just before they're rendered ingame
7. hit the settings icon at the top right, click "Save All as HAR". check the file. if it's 0 bytes you didnt clear the cache properly or something else fucked up

there's some software out there that lets you see the content of HAR files, ill leave you to figure that out, but the important part is the downloading.

anyway, if you got nothing to do today, find games through this thread or wayback machine listings of NSFW itch.io browser games (most of them are still available just unlisted AS OF NOW) and start downloading stuff you like, cause it could get lost very soon.

Note that the items stored into the HAR file may be truncated if they are larger than 1 MB when using this method. The preference "devtools.netmonitor.requestBodyLimit" (available in about:config) can be adjusted to raise the limit (I have it set to 268435456, which is 256 MB).

Heads up: Itch just dropped a list of prohibited themes, and on the blacklist is "bestiality or animal-related [content]".
This could well mean the end of furry NSFW on the site.
So get downloading.

One, much easier, way to download browser games is to just use the official itch.io client. It has the ability to download browser games so they can be played offline, or in this case, for archival.

The following is a non-exhaustive list of prohibited themes present in card processing networks. We are unable to support the sale of any works containing these topics:

  • Non-consensual content (real or implied)
  • Underage or “barely legal” themes
  • Incest or pseudo-incest content
  • Bestiality or animal-related
  • Rape, coercion, or force-related
  • Sex trafficking implications
  • Revenge porn / voyeur / hidden cam
  • Fetish involving bodily waste or extreme harm (e.g., “scat,” “vomit”)

Wow, that certainly is a list. Animal-related certainly gives me some worries, but considering the amount of websites that do furry content and don't have problems with payment processors as of yet, it might not be worth worrying too much about? I'd like to see some clarification on that one. I know these people can't see the difference between fiction and reality, but some of this stuff just straight-up isn't illegal even if it was real. Barely legal? That is legal by definition. Bodily waste? Just proving they're motivated by pure disgust.

One thing to note here is the wording: We are unable to support the sale of any works containing these topics. If we have some optimism, we can hope this means games won't be entirely nuked, but instead demonetised. Hopefully people will still be able to post free games and demos to itch.io and monetise them elsewhere.

At least Fansly considers furry to be 'simulated bestiality' so that's not promising.
Also 'underage themes' has been used to justify banning ageplay content where all characters/models/participants are grown ass adults.

The owner of Gelbooru posted a list of words apparently flagged by payment providers, and "furry" is on that list

Maybe, but the Fansly case shows that payment processors do take issue with furry content, so it's not all that unbelievable.

So tired of 80 year old wrinkle-dicked puritan cunts telling me what I can spend my money on.
Someone make a furry card called 'Fuck MasterCard & Visa'. -.-

honestly considering, as far as I know, none of the NSFW furry games on steam were touched (at least mostly, the ones that had the content that is banned from steam like incest probably are gone) when the ban bot was pretty vicious according to SteamDB I think furry is safe. Not to mention all the other websites payment processors attacked like this like Patreon still has furry stuff that doesnt have these banned themes are still on there when its been a few years? furry should be fine.
