Topic: Tag conflict: trap

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

There is obviously a literal meaning of "trap", as in a booby trap, and a colloquial meaning of "trap." I noticed this from this recent post. Someone who dislikes blood or injury themes might reasonably add "trap" to their blacklist for the first sense, but that will hide urelated posts that the user may want to see. Conversely someone who blacklists the second meaning may not want to block images containing the first meaning.

So the answer, I guess, is to change one of the meanings to a different tag. The colloquial sense of trap has several specific implications that would be lost by changing that meaning to a new tag, It seems like it doesn't have a good synonym. The other meaning has an easy synonym, so I would suggest changing the first sense of trap to booby_trap, which still conveys the same meaning specifically, and reserve the trap tag for the colloquial usage.

I wanted to see if this has been discussed before, or if there's a better solution I'm not seeing.

Remove trap altogether; use booby_trap and crossdressing respectively. If you're going to use trap, use it for the literal meaning. I don't like slang in tags, it's unprofessional.

So alias trap to crossdressing, filter out the images of actual traps, de-alias, then re-assign tag?

Not all traps crossdress, so thats a terrible idea.

If it's a trap (girly male crossdressing) that's not crossdressing (and thus is dressing like a male), then how exactly is it a trap (since the term came from crossdressing males that look feminine enough to possibly be females, with the commonly attributed intent being to 'trap' men whether they were or not, in the first place)?

Traps dont require crossdressing. Perhaps you should research these tags before posting. A few images have nude males under skimpy covers tagged as trap. Mainly due to the penis not seen by another char in the image but shown by the viewer. Trap does not =/= crossdressing. Thats all.

Every definition I've ever seen for the slang version of "trap" involves crossdressing. So I'm doubtful that any images just involving bedcovers should have been tagged with trap at all. Sounds like mistags to me. Surely those are better described by girly + male anyways?

I just glanced through all the pages tagged with "trap". It looks like tagging most with some combination of girly and/or crossdressing + male would handle it. I saw at least one naked but very girly male in there, so while trap may technically involve crossdressing, not everything currently tagged with "trap" should have had either tag.

I really like the idea of any actual traps becoming something like "booby_trap" instead. It's less ambiguous.

Although I really don't get how the alias, then unalias and realias would help at all. Wouldn't it be easier to sort through it first before combining it with the much bigger crossdressing tag, not after? Unless you're planning on cleaning up the whole crossdressing tag at the same time. That could take awhile. But then wouldn't removing the alias afterwards just remove the tag it no longer aliases to, making you have to re-add "crossdressing" to the whole bunch afterwards? I mean, I thought only implications stayed and had to be removed manually after a change is undone, while aliases removed themselves?

In any case, I think trap should be aliased to invalid_tag since any future use of it could range from booby traps to girly males to crossdressing males, and that's too wide a use for any one tag.

not re-alias, re-assign. As in, "alias traps to crossdressing. Have list of images (collated before alias) that were of traps detagged. de-alias trap from crossdressing. Re-assign trap tag to images of actual traps." My only issue with booby trap is that was a trap that was either of an explosive variety set to detonate on a prox or contact trigger, or one meant to catch by surprise, esp. as a nonlethal joke- like a bucket of water or chalkboard brush over a door to fall on someone's head. I would instead recommend something along the lines of "Deadly_trap" or "dangerous_trap" or the like, if we want to ensure that it isn't misused further.

I'm going with the better option.
Manually fixing the tags.

Trap will mean the object used for catching things, or the act of trapping someone/something, like in this: post #312291

Edit: I think I have it all cleaned up, someone can double check it though.
