Topic: My art dos not meet artistic requirements - How can I improve?

Posted under Art Talk

toki! I'm a relatively insecure artist who is looking for reasons, suggestions, and critiques for my artwork. Most if not all of my deleted posts were due to them not meeting the artistic standards of this site, such as my most recent one, post #5279096 (Mirrored here from FA). While I have become more experienced since my earlier uploads (which can be found on my FA page), this one is a bit of a head scratcher.

I know that I am biased towards liking the things that I put time and effort towards, likewise with some of my closer friends, so I'm hoping that a more disinterested crowd could shatter my naivete and give me some actionable criticisms.

(p.s. If there's a better place to redirect me towards, I would be happy to go there.)

You can refer to the pinned topic #23578 for reasons why an artwork is deleted, including the common reasons for not meeting artistic requirements.

Normally, you would also have to approach the janitor/staff member that deleted your post to ask what exactly is wrong with it.
However, in this case, the janitor in question @Mairo does not deal with these type of questions about deletions, so you will have to wait for another janitor to pitch in on this thread or approach the head admin @NotMeNotYou about it.

If you want my personal take (which will be very direct and does not contain tips for improvements), you can read it below.

My Take

Do not treat e621 as your personal/main art gallery as it is a curated imageboard. You do not get to control what you can post, what comments are posted on your posts, and how the votes would turn out (either bad or good).
E621 has a very high quality standard ceiling to prevent users from spamming "low quality" artwork whenever they like, so this would look very discouraging especially if you are starting out as an amateur artist.

Use a proper art gallery to develop your audience and improve your artistic skills (such as on FurAffinity).
From there, you can cultivate your own fanbase without worrying about meeting quality standard levels or bad votes/comments appearing on your posts.

I wouldn't post my artwork here unless it looks at least on par with 90% of the highly-rated and already-approved artworks here.

Let's start with the good. The image you linked is probably fairly close to meeting standards. Your lines are smooth and your shading, though perhaps a bit flat and simple, is reasonably consistent.

The biggest issue I'm seeing is anatomy- the hips and legs especially are lopsided and hard to figure out. Spend some more time in the sketch figuring out where stuff should go and how the parts should interact with each other.

Thank you, I'm definitely seeing it now in both this piece and previous works. I'll try to keep this in mind when making the next one.
