What about ben day dots
The bulk update request #5129 has been rejected.

Looking into ben day dots and the use of the tag on this site.

I see a lot of posts with the tag using screentone which just adds texture. A lot also with chromatic_aberration as opposed to ben day dots, though they look similar.
Ben day dots doesn't seem to actually be used that often in artworks posted to e6.

This post uses ben day dots, but hardly any others with the tag do.

However the technique seems largly irrelevant with today's tools as it was a bit of a trick to make new colors and areas of shading cheaply. Nowadays, the same materials needed to make such an image are much cheaper and hardly used outside of print.
The ben day dots tag seems to me to need cleanup, to separate it from the halftones, dithering, screentones, chromatic abberations, and other techniques that are used more for texture than shading.

A wikipedia link to ben day dots.

That image uses a high-contrast canvas texture overlay, not ben day dots.
This is probably the best example of the technique in the tag:

But you are right though that it's fairly rare in the tag. Aside from halftone there's also polka dot texture overlays that are clearly being used to mimic the appearance:

I'm kinda neutral on whether or not the tag should be applied to stuff that's obviously intended to be read as ben day dots but isn't.
