Topic: Tagging advice.

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

I'm going to start help tagging posts. Just wondering if anyone is willing to give some advice to a newbie. I am already aware of TWYS, I just would like to know about any particularly tricky tags and how to put tags into sections, like artist tags, copyrights, character ect. I appreciate you time and advice thank you!

Updated

To make a artist tag: art:tagname or artist:tagname
To make a character tag: char:tagname or character:tagname
To make a tag back to normal: gen:tagname or general:tagname
To make a copyright tag: copy:tagname or copyright:tagme

ALWAYS remove "tagme" from an image that already have the basic tags (artist, character, normal tags, etc.)

ALWAYS remove "invalid_tag" if you see it on any image.

Protip: If an artist isn't tagged, put in the artist or if you don't know who the artist is, add "unknown_artist"

Those are the basics. Now go out there, and make e621 proud!

Gender tagging is a tough point for some people.
A few things to keep in mind if you're tagging genders, particularly herm/dickgirl.
1. No visible vagina = not herm, unless it's extremely obvious that there is a vagina even though it's technically not visible, like this: post #350997

2. If there is a vagina, and you tag it herm, please don't forget to also tag the vagina(pussy) can't tell you how often people fail that.

3. A single character should never, ever, be tagged as dickgirl and herm, it's one or the other. Actually, that extends further, no single character should ever be tagged with more that one gender from the following list: male, female, dickgirl, herm, and cuntboy.
Herm and maleherm on one character is ok, since maleherm is considered a subset of herms.

Some other common tag mistakes, if you're planning on tagging My Little Pony images at all.
1. Only characters from the actual Friendship is Magic show get the Friendship is Magic tag. So, Original Characters do not, and neither do related, but non-show characters like Flash Sentry and Sunset Shimmer from Equestria Girls.

2. Human versions of the MLP characters are tagged with the _(eg) suffix, not the _(mlp) suffix. If there's both versions of the same character in the image, it gets both tags, and both the FiM and EG tags.

Probably most importantly, don't be afraid to make mistakes, it happens.
Avoid it where possible, but if you do mess up, fix it when you notice, and learn from your mistakes.
If you ever have specific questions, feel free to ask in the forums, or if it's specific to an image in the comments for that image.

Oh, and an extremely important thing to keep in mind.
If you get into a tag war, and the other person won't stop changing it back, a polite PM explaining why you're tagging the way you are may solve the problem, if it doesn't, don't argue, don't fight, just report the problem to an admin, and they will come, make a ruling and solve the issue.
If you argue, you may end up in trouble even if you were right in the first place.

This is wrong. Official characters from Equestria Girls are tagged with _(eg) suffix, and they are abominations not humans.

Normal, humanized mlp characters (without strange skin cancer) should get _(mlp) suffix.

Well, that's what I meant, I suppose I simply oversimplified it.
