Topic: Crediting Pixiv Artists

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

So... I thought I would bring this up in a new topic, since all of the others revolving around this subject are months old and I didn't want to gravedig. I've only just recently joined, and I wanted to do so to help source and tag unsourced/untagged art, since I'm big on organization.

Past conversations about pixiv artists have said things such as "don't use their japanese names because people can't type them". But, in my honest opinion.. they should be used anyway because they provide a link between art pieces, allowing the user to simply click on the japanese name on the side to view more pieces by them once they're tagged (instead of visiting pixiv itself, which isn't the greatest option since nsfw works are blocked to users without a pixiv account, the site can be unreadable, etc etc). Pixiv users typically don't change their nicknames that often anyway (from what I've seen).

I've also been putting english usernames with the japanese ones (if available). Though these are usually skype usernames I see on their profiles, so I don't think they're very reliable. But I figured that those two separate names can be alias'd in the end anyway, so both can be used to tag artworks. If a furaffinity link or somesuch is provided on their pixiv profile, I would obviously use that instead.

Hopefully what I'm doing isn't too bothersome? :l I just figured having an artist tagged is better than just putting "unknown artist", despite the source being available. It just doesn't sit right with me..

If we have an English name for a Japanese artist, we alias the Japanese name to the English one. That way no matter which you search you get the same result.

Usually, the romaji name is used when tagging if english can't be found

ah, good! so that would mean that even if I were to tag it with a japanese name, if an english name is available, it would be "type-able" in a sense? I'm just trying to help cut down on the amount of "unknown artist" pieces floating around, and I was worried that (after reading a few topics about it) I was doing more harm than good by tagging with japanese names. :x Even though I figured any artist credit was better than none.

We try to not use kanji tags on E6 unless it's absolutely necessary; an alias will return the results for the English name even if someone inputs the kanji name in a search.

But if no English name is available, it's better than not having the artist tagged.

okay! thank you for clarifying that, then. c: now I can resume tagging without worry, hehe.

I have been told years ago to simply right-click on the picture from their Pixiv gallery, and use the "artist" name that comes from it. Something like

http://xx.pixiv.net/imgxx/img/artist_name_to_use/xxxxx.xxx

should come, but sometimes, it's just a bunch of random numbers/letters that appear.

that does seem to be the username they use to log in, but I don't know if it would count as their "artist name", since it's not always what they go by? I'm not too sure about using that. Hm.

It's almost never by what they go by, but I still have been told to do this, since this name isn't possible to change unlike the displayed artist name on Pixiv, and is easy to verify. Of course, if it is one already known artist that is on Pixiv, like plantpenetrator , you better use this one instead.
