yep, that's gonna stay until one of us decides to get really creative with javascript. right now it's a no nonsense css design.

Ooh, the rating addition's a wonderful touch
Somewhat minor bug:
Blacklisted avatars seem to show up regardless

Dunno if it's just me or what, but the appear over the mouse (which is nice :D ) but for the top 2 rows of posts it isn't they go way up there. Like this
Edit:

Cool part is it can also be disabled if you don't want.

I find it a little annoying, since it gets over the other images. I wish there was a way to turn it off and on at will.

Yeah, opera is fixing that bug of theirs. It'll be fixed in a later release of their browser. :3

Holy flying fish in a barrel! My imagination can do that? I would revolutionize the internets as we know it. ...lol, wats a programmer
Back on topic. I do admit this feature could be a little less intrusive. A secondary option for a smaller, visible 'hover over' box or an 'icon' would do the trick.

My issue is that even if I try to disable it the normal thumbs don't reaper, just blank outlines.
Updated by anonymous
wow, that was the most annoying thing ever... I'm sure some people will like it. Just not me.
Updated by anonymous
I find it way too cumbersome for now. Simply hovering the cursor on the thumbnail already shows all the tags, rating and uploader

I have the same problem. And the blank outlines are just the " pending " or " parent " status' on posts. I don't know whats happening here. But I was able to see them fine last night. And now. Nothing. Not even the thumbnails when I hover over them after I unchecked, and checked the box to disable/enable it.
Updated by anonymous
i created my account because i thought disableing the hover thumbnail would let me see the regular thumbnail but it dident work is there any way for me to see the regular thumbnails again it very annoying to have to hover over it to see it at all plus there are several images whose hover thhumbnails overlap preventing me from seeing some images at all
Updated by anonymous
I don't know if it's a bug or not so I'll post it here. I have my images set in my setting as Show Image Samples so the images are smaller when you open up a post. Before update when I click on an images actual size in Statistics (e.g 2000x2000 (size of image)) it would resize in the same page if it was bigger than the preview and if same size it would send you to another page with the picture alone. Now it just sends you to another page regardless of it's bigger or smaller. The 'View original' at the top of the image doesn't work at all I think when click, before it did.

What is presently true has always been true and will always be true until it is changed. But once it is changed, there will be nothing to contradict it and therefore it will have been true from everlasting to everlasting.

I don't even get the point of this update. Its so fucking pointless they could have spent the time makeing this silly update by makeing the site crash less.

the code is totally stable dude. I don't ever see it crash besides the daily maintanence.

I tested this on every browser I could find before launch. Give me your browser version, operating system and plugins, also javascript settings.
Also make sure you REFRESH your javascript.

im using internet explorer my computer just updated tusday 9/25/2012 i dont know what my os is i dont know what a plugin is and dont know where to check javascript settings or refresh javascript

located the issue. congatulations! your browser sucks and is outdated. IE8 has a horrible time rendering this javascript, and caused the crash, I mean, I just ran IE9's backwards renderer.. first thing it broke.. also remembered how much effort me and tony put in keeping this site awesome.. and EVEN THE NINTENDO WII renders then your pathetic browser. Update to 9. or chrome. or opera (which has just a minor bug) but seriously. IE8 is broken, and your stuck with either forced updating, or using the mobile site.
I've found a work around stripping out one of the new systems (very minor. just cosmetic) but seriously. 100% standards code. on a backwards browser. Your gonna have a bad time

it's a neat feature, but aren't the preview images rather small?
i've always wondered why there isn't some setting to just display all images directly on the search page in like 800x800 semi-full-size.
of course something like that would be optional, as it might not agree with older computers

Because it'd use way more bandwidth than thumbnails and drive up hosting costs.

I've got an idea, how about profile settings checkboxes that let you turn on/off what is displayed in the preview, like this:
[ ] Image preview
[X] Tags list
[X] Rating
[ ] Score
[ ] ID
[X] Size
[X] File size

Did you test it in mobile browsers? Because it could use a close button on touch devices.

Yes. Just touch elsewhere. It closes. Also, mobile website. Mobile website.

On my Galaxy Nexus, previews pop up if you touch an image to scroll. Otherwise, they don't appear when you touch to select. They'll close if you touch any part of the screen.
On my iPad, previews appear when you touch an image, but don't close unless you touch another image only.
Background touch to close would be great across all.

Thats exactly what happens. Or should. Galaxy tab 2. Works fine background.anyhow. its css3, not javascript. The browser should recognise a hover out event

Hover out? On a touch device? That's a bit choppy across devices. Seems to me, more so with CSS than javascript.
So, no "close" on the border? Would solve the problem for all devices.
Updated by anonymous
I don't like this new feature.
It takes twice as long to download a page of thumbnails.

all you gotta do is touch outside the image.

browser version, if your browser works correctly it shouldn't load

What I'm saying is that's not working on the ipad running iOS 6. You can touch the background to close on android, but you have to touch another image to close on the ipad. And the thumbnails are often covering other images.
I don't have one to test it, but that means it might not be working properly on the iphone as well.

Thats gonna be a bug with the browser. Since onhover is a very basic css element

I've tested it with two different browsers on the iPad, same thing. I mean, seeing how ubiquitous Apple devices are, shouldn't you make sure the code's compatible?

My problem with page-loading is not the browser (FireFox with AdBlock & NoScript) but the fact that I'm still using pokey-old dial-up on a phone line that probably needs to be re-wired.
I just can't bring myself to spend the money to get local cable internet that is Not Comcast.

Like Aurali said, use the mobile site .
There's no extensive javascript running in these pages and they won't download the big images without opening the image.

I never made a demand of you to do anything. I'm a user of the site, telling you about a bug that pops up when using a certain device. And not by any means an obscure device or OS.
The admins say we can do this if we remain civil. Was I uncivil at some point in the discussion up there?
I'm pretty sure most developers don't actually own all the physical devices they're writing code for.

I can't test for something I don't have. Either way, it's not a bug with the site, it's a bug with the OS, one Apple knows about. Will not fix.
