I don't RP, but if I did, I would find the "every single word capitalized" thing unbearably distracting. I've never understood why some people type that way. Does it have to do with native language? Or...?

I must say it is surly alive and well! The UI can be a little rough getting used to but i have managed well and dont consider myself super tech savvy. Though i must warn you it can be quite addicting. Potentially expensive if you dont have much self control with your money....

I tried SL a few years ago. I walked around. I talked with a few people. I went to a few sex establishments. I tried on some clothes, costumes(skins?), and other customizables. I uninstalled it within a couple days.

From this I came to these conclusions:

• It's only slightly more game-like than IMVU
• People who like it, really really like it
• I appreciate the potential in their engine, but the results aren't very appealing or interesting to me

It wouldn't even be that bad if the people who did it the most weren't so bad at it. Hell, I've seen more convincing catcalls IRL than 99% of the crap I've dealt with online.

I use SL quite often, but I don't take it seriously at all. It's just a chat client to me, I don't RP, "yiff" or any of that bullshit. If anybody ever wants to hang with me you can dmail me I guess, I'm boring as fuck though.

Messing around with physics and stuff in sandboxes is fun, that's about all I can recommend for it.

It's notoriously bad for beginners, shoot me a dmail if you need help with anything. It took my friend an hour to work out how to wear a shirt.

I have SL, I wanted to get more into it for the sake of learning to 3D model, but just haven't gotten around to it.

I'm a top grade avatar modder. So my main focus and source of enjoyment in sl is building unique things, creatures, etc cetera. When I go to show these things off I either get ignored, or dogpiled. When I first joined I would tiff but only if they actually put some effort into attracting me an shit. Most of these days it's noobs who use oneliners, unlike most when I Rp I post fucking books. Once had a noob complain I nearly fried his computer cuz my post was 6 full paragraphs.

Plus my ex was on sl, got mated to me officially, then after about a year started fucking anything that even looked at her. Got so bad she was spending 90% of her time on top, under, or about to be. New person every day. Tried to get her to shape up... lasted four years, ruined cybersex for me and nearly destroyed my mental state. A lot of them look at it as just a game though it isn't especially when a mated pair made plans to get together in rl eventually.... sighs. Oh well best thing that happened was it ended, spectacularly I might add, and my current bf who lingered in the background four almost 4 years waiting for me picked up all the shattered pieces of my heart and put it back together. If that ain't commitment I dono what is.

Easily actually... the person gets too attached to their online partner. Their partner goes sex nymphomaniac, rubs it in their face then starts blatantly lying their ass off about what their doing and where they are, tells the injured partner they still love them when they don't. Never spends any time with the injured partner, rps pregnancy, having children, does it for money, favors, New computer equipment or games, etc etc. 4 years of this, to some a relationship online is the same as a relationship in rl, that kind of shit can mess with your head. Did serious SL a few years back; modeling, scripting, RP, spending etc. but my character is in limbo after credit card fraud (got everything back so no worries) and never got it released...

Well damn man, I know how it feels to lose a loved one, my grandpa actually... well, killed himself with the gun my mother gave him for self-defense, in his bathroom I think. I was young at the time, about 13. And we had just moved, after living next door to him for pretty much my entire life. Man, my mom felt like shit.

Anyways, point is, I an relate, man. But just because someone online fucks you over doesn't mean you have to take them to heart. If there's one thing I always say, irl at least, it's that if someone you care about, like a friend or something, fucks you over, or treats you like shit, or doesn't want to talk to you, or shit like that, then they weren't worth it from the start because you don't need people like that in your life. My logic is pretty much, if someone doesn't care about you enough to show it, then they don't fucking matter, because you, me, and pretty much everyone who tries in life is fucking awesome, and if they can't see your awesomeness, then they're not fucking awesome enough to be involved in your life. Fuck 'em.

Also i found if you really want to roleplay, google+ is the best place (at least to me)

twitter and facebook is a bunch of one-liners, or even when you get someone decent, they either have a "mate" or stop replying to it.

if you want to roleplay, you can join communites on google+, there are even some for specific kinks...

although google+ has really stupid rules, such as no Porn (most people dont care), so you probably wont see a bunch of porn on everyone's google+ page unless they add you (smart people hide it from the public, because you will get reported).

if you see people with porn on their profiles publicly, dont expect them to be around long.

i'll be honest, i roleplay, i have for about a year or so now (i think just over a year actually).

at first i did "clean" RP, no sex, just adventure-type stuff, but i got fed up with not having any real "goal" per say, and always having really stupid text talk, types in all uppercase, one liner, sonic the hedgehog roleplay characters, so i eventually moved to just Naughty RP....

a lot of my best friends i found doing that, and another thing, 99% of the time, its purely for the sake of fapping, or jsut roleplaying, people wont expect you to act like you're mates 24/7.

I find that skype is a rather suitable platform for RP, however you have to have basic knowledge of thd participants.

I used to do the whole no logging out bit. Had a house and stuff...used to actually have my avatar and my mates in bed actual sleeping during the night. That ended when linden labs fuckrd up the land security stuff during an update. Turned off my security border. Woke up in the morning and some creepy human had gotten into the house (which was 20,000 meters in the air), used the bed controls to boot my mate and then fucked my avatar, snapped photos, then tried to blackmail me.
Not always the best idea leaving it running 24/7.
I just laughed and told him to get lost, then filed a ticket. A linden contacted me a few days later asking if I knew him, and that he was claiming I was doing age play, they checked my chat logs. Dude ended up in serious legAl shit for that stunt.
