Reason:

Aside from the obvious (there were about forty or so, I moved them to flared_penis), the "Flare" tag is being used to refer to the obvious signal flare: post #431109 along with character names, which I left alone.

"Flares" is being used to refer to posts with:

Decoy flares: post #148201
The kind used for effect: post #215676
And clothes, apparently: post #15864

Too many different meanings to be worth keeping?

Maybe it could be tagged as pyrotechnics? I'm kind of surprised that tag doesn't already exist.

Anyway, yeah, the flare tag should either be disambiguated or invalidated.

I'd go for invalidated.

even though we have tags for firearms, I'm also going for invalidated.

Found a tag flare_gun which would indicate some form of signal or emergency flare.

To me, the case in point post #431109 is a smoke grenade.

post #215676 definitely works as pyrotechnics as mentioned by Genjar.

However, post #148201 clearly works for flares as an anti-missile countermeasure.

I am surprised to not find evidence of some form of emergency flare; even I (a not-overly-outdoors-y-type) have a small pen launcher in both my vehicle and my cycling pack, and I carry 12ga flare cartridges when I go camping.
