Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: tagme_(artist) -> unknown_artist

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #73652 tagme_(artist) -> unknown_artist has been approved.

Reason: Every one of the current posts already has an actual artist tag, and there is no artist entry for tagme_(artist). Of the 13 times this tag was added, 11 of them were on upload. What could this possibly mean if not "unknown artist"?

EDIT: The tag alias tagme_(artist) -> unknown_artist (forum #424058) has been approved by @spe.

What if there's an artist with the name tagme? :v

tagme_(twitter), tagme_(furaffinity), tagme_(alternative_name) etc.
if anything this just seems to be a holdover from other sites. rule34 has 12 thousand posts under tagme_(artist), let's not encourage their bad tagging habits.

You know, I thought anonymous_(artist) was an actual artist going by the name "Anonymous", and it was named that way to distinguish from being anonymous_artist or anonymous_character (which seems like a really weird tag) or anon. Now I'm starting to doubt.

That could be confusing since most artists are on multiple sites, and may not have an alternative name.

It is going to be fundamentally impossible for two different people to come to Twitter with the exact same name, or two different people to come to Furaffinity with the exact same name.
If Tagme A has a Twitter account but Tagme B doesn't, then that's a disambiguation we can use.
If Tagme A and Tagme B both have Twitter accounts with "tagme" as the display name, their usernames must necessarily be different, and that's a disambiguation we can use.

But none of these possibilities have become reality yet, because tagme_(artist) seems to just be a holdover from boorus that are more lax about this stuff. If Rule34's tagme_(artist) was an individual (it's not, they constantly add actual artist tags on their posts), they would have almost twice the output that manmosu marimo does.

I mean if an artist named Tagme is on both Twitter and FurAffinity, who's to say whether the tag should be tagme_(twitter) or tagme_(furaffinity)? And if they leave, upload less frequently to, or only upload certain types of art on the site we made the tag match, it'd be confusing to still tag them for that site.

look man, i really don't think this is a blocking issue. people get artist names wrong the first time (dangan) and the site miraculously doesn't blow up.

If there's an artist on Twitter/X named Tagme, regardless of whether they're Tagme on another site or not, then we'd use their unique @name instead. The same goes with someone on BlueSky. Why can I say this? Because tagme, tag_me, and tagme are already taken, and accounts on those two platforms must have unique @names. Granted, those particular users might someday upload art that would be relevant here, but that's a hypothetical that's highly unlikely (besides, Twitter/X's tagme has a proper name for a handle, so we'd obviously use that), so much so that it's not worth rejecting the alias request because of a might.

In any case, even if our hypothetical Tagme limits themselves to galleries off of Twitter/X and BlueSky, the amount of their pictures that would hypothetically be uploaded here would be very tiny compared to the many, many unknown_artist tagme_(artist)s. At this point in time, it's a hypothetical that's worth keeping in mind, but tagme_(artist) is a real issue affecting the site now. I think worrying about an artist legitimately named Tagme is a bridge we can burn when and if it shows up.

I'm not saying no, I'm just saying that the tag being suffixed in that way can create confusion, as pointed out by anonymous_(artist) being inferred by some to be an actual artist going by Anonymous, so I think it's at least worth thinking about.
