Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: pyne_(artist) -> pyne

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #73598 pyne_(artist) -> pyne has been approved.

Reason: There is no reason to include the _(artist) suffix in this case. Please do not include the _(artist) suffix unless the artist name is a common word, such as pig and pig_(artist), or a more popular character from established media, such as link and link_(artist), to avoid confusion and disambiguate where necessary. More tag aliases (or a BUR) will be made to fix these cases as they appear.

EDIT: The tag alias pyne_(artist) -> pyne (forum #423963) has been approved by @spe.

Could it be because the artist also uses pyne_(character)?

EDIT: Just saw it was a recent addition you have made, though isn't the standard procedure to have both *_(artist) and *_(character) when the artist also has a character with the same name?

Nope, that was originally pyne before it was changed to pyne_(character) by tag script. Standard practice is for the character name to have that suffix if the artist name and character name are identical.

Edited to fix artist name listed from pine to pyne.

Updated

In cases like this, the character is generally named after the artist, so favoring the artist for the unsuffixed tag makes more sense to me.

I thought the standard procedure was for both the artist tag and the character tag to get the suffix treatment.

Only if the unsuffixed tag would be ambiguous with something else. If it’s not ambiguous, there’s no point in leaving the unsuffixed tag empty, and the artist should take priority over their self-named OC.
